Gents,

Hello.

I'm older, 53, a doc, and enjoy detailing my 2 girls, wives and my cars & cycles.
They include Nissan Sentra-silver, Bmw X3- silver, and Bmw328xi - gray ( now that white one has been totaled), and an X6- emerald & soon to be a new X6- black saffire metallic, MVF4 and old BMW.

I do my car mostly and a couple of times/year give each other car a basic detail.

My X6 i usually hand wash weekly and polish monthly.

During winter, in the past I have used local decent car wash.

But going forward with the new X6, I plan to hand wash weekly.

I suspect I'll hand off weekly washing to a local shop during the winter.

I do all processes by hand, but very well may get an orbital this season.
BMW wheel dust really sucks, but the key clearly is weekly removal. Its a shame the inside of the wheel is often so difficult to get at.

I certainly will post some pictures and will be reviewing past posts.

I just registered here today as well and am extremely familiar with the BMW line up. Recently I have been detailing quite a few BSM cars and am always wowed at how the metallic captures the sunlight. The oldest BSM is a 2000 528i and it actually turned out to have a better overall depth than the newer versions of the same color.

The brake dust deal is a PITA, however if you have the time to apply a quality sealant or Wheel Wax to them; you'll find cleaning to be much easier. The Ferret wheel brushes have been my best find for cleaning the inner barrel of the wheels.

By the way, I'm not sure of your hand wash technique (of if you have one), but here's some advice that may help you in dealing with the soft BMW paint. Soft as in marring is just about impossible to prevent.

Wash from top to bottom, horizontally.
Dry from top to bottom, vertically if possible.

Wax the same direction, on & off.

Not using any circular motions will aid in the finish appearing as blemish free as possible for a much longer time than using any other process.
