I am new to this site and I happened upon it looking for information on a good durable wax to use to get me through the winter on my new Camaro. I was going to buy a second vehicle but don't think it is in the cards right now so have to make the best of it. It is my daily driver and will be for the winter now. Unfortunately it is black and I sure wished I would have listened to the people telling me how hard it is to keep clean. I never had black before and I thought how bad could it be. Wow, I never worked so hard this summer keeping it clean now I know the winter is going to drive me nuts since it gets so cold here. I look forward to finding information here on the art of detailing.

welcome to AF dean. this is a great site to learn from some exceptional detailers who are always happy to share their experiences and personal advice that can help you bypass a lot of headaches. we all share your pain of the black vehicles. :) for a decent wax that is probably one of the most durable, give Collinite Liquid Insulator Wax No. 845 a try. won't break the bank either.
 
Thanks Steve. Funny thing, I was doing some searching and decided to give FK1000P a try so ordered some and the Collinite 915 or the 845 was my second choices. The 915 I thought was kind of expensive (I am getting cheap as I get older) and decided to give Finish Kare a try. I can say I have not ever spent so much on car care products in my life, LOL.

yep, get ready to part with a lot more if you get addicted like the rest of us here. we need to try out everything. if you don't have a good polisher yet, that will be the one item you'll never regret getting. (it's all downhill from there) :D

I seen the review. I do have a DA polisher from Griot's garage, plus pads, towels etc cha-ching, just got my order today with speed shine, the new wax, more MF towels, detailing tools, cha-ching. Looks like I am not done either, even though new car I see I should have a clay bar if some sort, didn't get the towels I thought, I thought I read the Collinite Insulator wax works great for a topper over wax, cha-ching. lol. My last car I had was a Monte Carlo and I think I have cleaned and waxed this car more time in the few months I have had it then the 8 years I had the Monte. I think I have got the detail bug, virus or whatever you call it. Now trying to figure out the best way to get the fk1000p on the pad or just apply to and then use the DA. I will figure it out.

Welcome to the forum! You are probably better off with a dark color. With all the snow you get up there, a lighter colored car would be more difficult to see against the snow.:)

The Camaro is built on the same chassis as my G8. It handled very well in the snow with a good set of winter rims and snow tires. I ran with Continental Extreme Winter Contacts and was very happy with them. The Blizzak WS70 tires are supposed to be even better.

I use Collinite #845 for my winter wax, though the FK1000 is very good as well. Being OCD myself, I happen to have both, as well as Blackfire, Megs #21, etc. etc.

I have already been told by a couple people that they can see the skunk stripes coming at least a half mile away, they should be able to see me close to a mile against the white background. :lol2:

Last winter we had a mild winter so that is what I was hoping. Bad thing is since it the last week in September it is already getting pretty chilly. Thermometer read about 26 degrees and hour ago, brrrrrrrrr.
