Whats up guys. I have a 2008 VW gti and with the warmer weather coming im looking to get myself a decent DA polisher. A lot of searches brought me to this site so I figured I'd get registered. I don't have any pictures of my car to post up but its black magic pearl and the black has really been making me want to learn more about the proper way to clean and protect the paint. I'll work on getting some pictures up next chance I get to clean the car up.

Howdy, Mike.

I'm just over in Richmond, VA, and found and registered on autipia for the very same reasons. I have a very tricky car because its BMW's infamous Jet Black. I'd seem tons of great detail and paint experts on BMW sites, but they were all in England!

Through this site, I connected with Got_Leather (his autopia handle). He's located in Fredericksburg, but has clients from all over Virginia and beyond. He's well regarded by others and is very keen on his craft.

He's currently working on a detail and paint correction on my Z4 Coupe. I'm sure you'll be seeing the results up here in the coming weeks. In the meantime, drop him a PM.

Cheers,

Geoff

Thank you for the welcoming everyone! Thanks for the info ZedHead, I can't wait to see the results. I'm also interested in checking out your z4.

I'll look more into the Flexs KnuckleBuckett, I honestly don't know much about them.

At the moment I'm putting together a list to figure out how much everything will cost. I'm going off of a post from the detailing section on vwvortex.com and heres where I am at now.

PC 7424

3.5" Dual action backing plate

LC 4" Spot buffpads:

2xOrange

2xWhite

1xGreen

1xGrey

Optimum Polish II

Menzerna P085RD

I already have Duragloss 601, 105, and 951 Aquawax but the 951 leaked out most of its contents after the first time I used it when it was in the container that I keep most of my stuff in. I have two questions:

Would it be possible to use Chemicalguys Pete's 53 pastewax instead of the aquawax? I've seen some results on golfmkv.com that turned me on to the Pete's 53.

And is the Opt. Polish + Menzerna overkill? My car is a little over a year and a half old with light swirl marks. The reason I can't decide if it is or not is because I have no way to compare what 1500 grit sanding marks or 2500 grit sanding marks look like compared to the condition of my paint. I was hoping to find a chart to compare them all.

Thanks again for the welcoming,

-Mike
