Hello from Long Island

2005 F-150 FX4 supercrew
I have been reading this forum for awhile and decided to join..I was lead here from a detailing forum on f150online.com and i am trying to absorb as much info as i can on detailing...So much info here, so little time to try this stuff out...My biggest struggle is A: do i buy all the necessities to detail my own vehicles (my f150 and wifes Altima) or B: hire someone to do it...I have a 2 year old son and a 3month old daughter so alot of my free time goes to them..Well anyway hello from LI, NY

Welcome to DC! Those are some valid concerns you have. Detailing can be a full time adventure, but you can also maintain a good finish with minimal time. My suggestion is to buy the basics and try to do it yourself. From what you have said, you probably won't be able to get into it as heavily as some here, but if you can spare about 2-3 hours one day a month and about 1 hour a week after that, you should be able to keep it pretty clean. I hope you enjoy your stay here!

I agree with Audiboy. It is jsut getting started that is the worst. Take the time to learn the washing techniques for that is where msot imperfections come from.

Wash, dry and protect until you have the time and knowledge to go farther with your detailing.

Welcome to DC!!

Welcome to Dc, im mike. I would buy the stuff to do it yourself, thast what i did. however to make it seem liek less of a burden and make it less overwhelming i ordered a little at a time. For example i started by ordering some wax, soap, a good waffle weeve, and a mf wash pad. I did the basic was and wax, once i was confortable i splurged and bought a kit, however i would recomend then going to a polish, then clay, then work on stuff for the inside. I know alot of ppl will think im mad however it makes it much less overwhelming (which it can be) it also give you a chance to get used to a few products at a time. However defintly do it yoourself, get the kids involved. im sure they will love washing the car with dad. Make it a family thing. they can be your special helper. I know alot of ppl on this forum let there kids help them out. Theres even a few threads about it. So welcome to dc and enjoy

Hi Rob welcome to DC :howdy

You can probably pick what you need for the cost of have both vehicles professionaly detailed, but it sounds more like an issue of not having the time to do it.
Even if you get it detailed you will still want to pick up certain things to maintain it. So you can just slowy build up items till you are set and have the time.

Good luck which ever way you choose

Thanks for the warm welcome..I already have clayed and used NXT when i first bought my truck 1 year ago this month, i also use the 2 bucket method. My bigget mistake was when i went on a road trip to upstate NY and it got filthy so i decided to go to a car wash..Never again..That was the 1st and last time it will see one. Now a have some spiderweb/ swirls (not really sure of the correct term) and i dont know if i should invest in the poorboys PC package or hire someone.Im also a little itimidated by a power tool on my truck. The web/swirl marks drive me nuts....Here is a link to my truck: http://www.f150online.com/galleries/mygallery.cfm?gnum=5767

These pics in the link were before the swirls

Wlcome Rob. Glad to see some new people from the Island here lately. Maybe soon we all can get together and BS about different things. You have lots of reading to do. Enjoy If you want to try a PC for yourself give me a shout and maybe we could set something up.

If Rob has the time, give out a hollar(sp?). I'd be up for that.

P.S.

Sounds like a good idea! You know there are lots of cruise nights soon starting up here on LI, maybe meet up at one the first time. My favorite is Tuesday nights in Oyster Bay.
