Hey everyone, account finally got activated. I've been itching to post for quite awhile now. I have so many questions, comments, ideas, to post. I'm very excited to be a part of such an insightful, wisdom filled forum. My wife and I both look forward to taking advantage of the vast amount of knowledge available to us through all of these threads. Its already helped us more than you could imagine.
To begin My name is Davron. I along with my wife Katie (22 and 19 yrs old respectively) are opening a detailing business come March. Im currently busting my butt doing two jobs, neither of which pay what they should. We work one job in the mornings together from 6am-10am and then I work a 3rd shift job from 9:30pm-5:45am. Our morning job will be closing March 4th leaving us spare time to fill, and a large gap in our financial budget to compensate for.
Detailing has always been a hobby for me. I've always been one to never have a dirty car. my wife even has pictures of me cleaning up vehicles in the dead of winter. But I never realized the immensity of true detailing. For me it was always a wash and wax, I'd go farther than most doing all i could to remove all dirt from doorjambs and every nook and cranny i could fine. Always carrying MF towels around for a quick touch up here and there. But i never comprehended how much more time, effort, research, and dedication were required to keep a car looking its best.
I've been researching all aspects of detailing for 3 and 1/2 months now. For countless hours I've surfed the web reading blogs, articles, how to's. Researching and comparing what chemicals to use, what methods to use, how to save time, how to take my time. I've been very appreciative of the articles found at sites such as detailcity.com, autogeek, and several novel sized posts about detailing from experts such as Bud Abrams.
We've been stockpiling equipment and chemicals best we can, but we're on a very limited budget. As it stands we still have to invest in a carpet extractor and a steam cleaner. (we've been looking at the aztec hotrod, for an extractor but are still unset in a choice for a steam cleaner) and a few more chemicals, more than likely a combo of poorboys and griots garage. Our business will be fully mobile and self sufficient as we've already purchased a water tank and generator. We can't wait for the season to begin. We still have so much to learn but we're willing to keep and open mind and are both very persistent. Car shows are commonly held twice a month or more in our surrounding areas. We plan to be a part of them all. Taking advantage of any advertising or marketing opportunities available. We know to be humble and realistic in our expectations, knowing that it takes time and persistence for any business to flourish. We plan to be patient, level headed, and always provide a service that exceeds our customers expectations.
We have alot to learn, and look forward to interacting with all of you on the forum. I'll thank you in advance for all of the help you provide, it already has served to prepare us for what lies ahead. We'll keep you posted on our progress, and share our experiences as they happen. It is our hope that things go well, that we can stick with it, and one day open a small garage of our own. Detailing is such an under rated service. Its our goal to enlighten at least a few on the complexity of the nature of this service. The time, attention, and patience that a true detailer gives to every vehicle he services is nothing short of amazing... With that being said I'll end again with a thank you, and look forward to hearing what you all have to say.
