Hello Everyone

Hello Everyone – I am new to this forum and it seems to be a perfect fit for my business. Family issues caused me to move to western New York (Burrrr…) from South Carolina where I had a successful mobile business. I was mainly repairing and painting bumpers for various car dealers in the area. The problem here though is winter, wind, and rust – none of which lends a friendly hand to painting outside.

Detailing seems to be a more viable option here and is much more “green” than painting outside, not to mention the health hazard of isocyanates. My work van is set up to operate completely stand alone, but maybe a little short on fresh water. I have all the commercial quality tools and equipment necessary for top quality results and a work ethic that never stops. My closest friend that I have known since boyhood, runs a busy Classic and Custom Car Restoration Shop, which could give me good access to high-end work.

My concerns however are

1. Can I do a top quality detailing job without an abundant supply of fresh water? My van has a hydraulic lift on the back eliminating the possibility of towing a trailer. I presently use a portable gas caddy filled with 14 Gal of water that I can hand pump or drain from. Would ONR work and still result in top notch end result? Any other ideas?

2. Polishes seem to be all over the map in use and durability. Some require 12 hours dry or cure time before application of wax. I understand that Carnuba wax breathes to allow nourishment to the leaves it grows on. Would that be ok to use right over the polish? Any recommends on good polish with long durability?

Many Thanks

IMO washes on everything but the crudiest vehicles look better done when washed with ONR then those washed with car wash soap and water. Something caked in mud can be power rinsed then washed with ONR for pro results. Putting some ONR diluted to QD strength in a pump sprayer works great as a pre-wash spray on medium dirty vehicles.

In regards to #2 I think you mean polish as we refer to sealant where a sealant is a protector like wax? A polish is generally a corrective paste used to enhance gloss w/o protection, though there are products that do a little of both. My advice would be to try a few samples from a couple different product lines and see what works best for you. Optimum products have a ton of versatility and provide great results as does the Meguiars line of pro products, just to name two. I use both lines in my shop. Also search the car detailing product discussion forum here as every product imaginable has been tested and reviewed already.

Thanks for the replys, I'll do what you suggested Michael. When I was in SC, I worked around both Greenville and Spartanburg - had an apartment in Lyman. Great place to live and work. I'd be back there in a minute if I could!

WOW dude, serious? I live in Lyman. Small world! I live on the street where Wachovia bank is, near Lyman First Baptist.

Yea it's amazing! I was on Goodrich just off of Wade Hampton. My brother lives in Simpsonville so I still get back there now and then.
