Heavy Cut compound recommendations needed.. Trying to get rid of 3M!

#105 and add in 30% or so of OHC or OC. You still get most of the cut of 105 with a much longer working time and even better finish than just 105 alone.

It actually works pretty good. Small abrasives, long work time. Not as aggressive as 105 though-honestly, nothing I have used is. CCM does leave a pretty nice finish.
 
I'm just saying this because I finally picked up and tried a bottle for myself. Megs 105 is abso*******lutely amazing. People have been touting it here for months, and I normally don't recommend or endorse anything until I have used it myself, but this stuff lives up to the hype.



I was helping a friend wetsand and buff out a DIY paint job so I picked up a quart to use with a synthetic wool pad. It cleared out 1500 grit wet sand marks almost to a final finish with only a few minutes per panel (on a VERY hard clear coat). I'm a believer.
 
OK 105 users - I tried it and I honestly did not have a nice time. The best I could get was when I used wool but I still could not get it to finish clean. I was using a Makita and tried the LC orange CCS pad, LC white flat pad, Foamed Wool pad and 3M regular wool (best). I tried low speed - 1000rpm and medium - 1500rpm, picking it up off the paint and adding to the pad, a few dabs and a 7" line, nada, zip, zero - always flashed faster than I could handle and left a mess. OK, like I know it's me, but I'm afraid I can't unlearn what I've been doing, may sell it and go back to #84 or try 1Z Pro.

Let me know if you want to unload it. Try working a smaller area or using a larger amount before you dump it though.
 
Tim - going to a local Detail Meet this coming Saturday - either I'll learn to love it (doubtful) or sell/trade it to someone there (likely!). BTW - love your accent!

I have been meaning to try Presta since I can get it locally and they swear by it. I still havent really tried the system one I bought a few months ago from the same place. Just a few test runs with my edge pads.

Heh heh, until pretty recently it was the *wool* that nobody was using :D For *years* there was hardly any mention (here) of compouding with wool...it was all yellow, burgundy, and orange foam.



Seems like, just recently, the Edge and LC foamed wool have precipitated a sea-change with regard to how people do serious correction (I know, I know, a few people have always used Meg's and 3M wool).
