Falling apart?? Not worth doing?? Seems to be in decent shape to me... maybe you just have better vision than my 20/15 and maybe you only detail supercars...
 
timmay - No loyatly to 3M just giving it a shot. The only stuff I really am loyal to are Collinite products :)



AuAltima3.5 - No real performance mods, E-fans, intake and exhaust. I need to keep this one fairly stock, well as stock as I can possibly leave it because I have a habit of screwin with things. Besides the 2.2 4cly S10s are probably the slowest things on earth. It deos get good gas mpg and look good though, which is why I bought it. I cant be driving this daily anymore...specially back and forth to school.

I'd really look into Meguiars #105 and a yellow Meguiars polishing pad as a starting point. The paint is really hammered and #105 works pretty fast. Follow with 3M SMR and Ultrafina (recently renamed Ultra Fine Machine Polish).

PFW and a medium compound might be a good choice too...



most body shops are good at painting and fixing, but suck at detailing, which is why the one I have dealt with outsources the detail portion

Heres a few shots. My frigging bulb in my light stand died :( So the pics didnt come out how I wanted them too, but you can see the difference. The truck is still a lil dusty and ditry in some of the pics, It was friggin windy out today. Anyone in Jersey can attest to that lol. I didnt get to put any finishing touches on the truck so I still have buff residue all over. Im gonna finish it up tommorow.

Excellent job on polishing the S10. By the way, did you change the wheels as well? I love the clean look of that truck.
 
Great job on the S10. My Uncle has a '98 Ranger that is pretty bad like this S10 but with hard well water stains all over it. He only wanted the interior cleaned up but after I did a test spot on the fender, now he wants me to do the entire truck. It will look like his '09 GMC Truck sitting in his garage when done.
 
I still say get some 105....you made an improvement, but there is still a long way to go/that can be done...follow that with some 83 and then whatever final finish polish you want and you should be good to go.



are you sure those arent buffer trails...seems like they are in all of your pics, not just the one?????
 
I think that you could get it much higher but I'm not sure of how good you are on a rotary. Final result is 99% technique.



The polish you used has a lot of fillers. It makes bad technique look good for several weeks to several months. Then the paint will start to revert back to its previous state.



Also judging by the holograms present in the after pictures (considering the filling nature of the product) that you are pretty new to a rotary?



I think you could really make that paint look outstanding but I would strongly suggest using a dual-action polisher like a Porter Cable 7424 with Lake Country's Orange and White pads and Menzerna PO83 and PO106ff. I really think you could blow that paint through the roof.



Alteranitvely you can produce similar, if not better results with your DeWalt but would have to invest a lot of time in perfecting your technique. Either way this forum is a great place to find a lot of info and it looks like you are on the right track ;)

Yeah I just went back and looked and there some there. Acually just in a few spots. I will hafto go around it again tommorow. I do not have any of the Meguirs stuff here. Just some polish, compound and this 3M stuff. Remember I just do this on the side for myself, I may need to invest in some other stuff, but Ill hafto wait a lil. Poor college kid FTL

I have a medium polish pad, but im not sure if that will swirl it up again. Again, I belive I need to get some of the pads that you guys are using.

Thanks for the advice, Id like to stay with the Dewalt since I dont have the cash to buy a polisher right now. Although Id love to have one. Thanks for the tips, im gonna need to be searching some more for a few tips.
 
I got those few trails out. The only problem I have now is that in some spots you can see some marks. They arent trails, they look like if I wiped it down with a dirty towel. Kinda like wash lines, but everything I used was new. :dunno: They arent too noticable, but I see them and it makes me angry inside. Ill see if I can grab some pics tommorow after work. Here are a couple pics I took before camera died.
