Heat!

I was in our one car garage today working on one of our jeeps and my 1000watt Shop lights was keeping it toasty in there. Those things put off some serious light but they also put off a crap load of heat.

I still need to move all my supplies inside, it's been sitting in the cold dfor almost 2 days now with 30 deree weather and below!

I'm looking at the 2 burner heater that sits on top of your 20 pound propane tank $89.00and the little Redi Heater - it's twice as much at $179.00 (Lowes) for my 2 car garage 24'x26'. Any Pros and Cons ?

IM sitting here looking at you all complaining about 30 degree weather and laughing.

Im living In Grand forks ND now and it is currently -1 feels like -5 (weve already hit -13)

I gave up on trying to heat my garage but I know that the electric heaters like morris9982 has work great!

Well finished insulating the garage a couple of weeks ago, door not done yet. It has being cold, -25C some nights. I have 2 little ceramic heaters that are kept on low at night and it stays about 40F. Days i have a propane tank top 12000 btu heater. With the tank top and the 2 electric heaters on high, it takes about 30 minutes to reach 60F. Then use the electric to maintain it.

I received an indoor safe propane 16000 btu yesterday, but haven't used it yet. I expect it should work even better, especially with the door insulated.

I was thinking about getting an electric heater that I can set to a temp where it controls when it turns on or off. I am currently in the process of having someone come out and blow insulation in all the walls and ceiling...:up

'i stumbled upon a torpedo heater on craigslist and had to buy it.

for $ 200... i know i didn't go wrong. I saw the same ones at home depot for like $ 550.It gets the garage hot as hell in 5 minutes. I cant wait to get out of the single car garage into something bigger.'

I've got the same one ('cept mine is Red) and paid about the same thing (got it on a end of season sale at Home Depot.

I run it in my 1 car garage and it heats that place up like it's no body's business no matter what temp it is outside and even with the doors open.

I've run it while I was doing body work and painting and was happy to have it this winter as I couldn't get the work done without it, though it is too big for my garage.

I really need a bigger place.

Steck your spoiled. Very nice heater.

As already posted i am running various heaters in my garage. 2 small ceramics to keep the temp above 0 at night and to maintain once warm. I bought an IR 16000 BTU propane with oxygen sensor off EBay, $88 delivered. It works even better than the tank top.

Typically the bottom 2 feet would still be colder than to top 6 feet, the IR really helps.

Hey Steck

What did that IR unit cost?

I recently installed the same on Morris9982 has. My existing garage is only 20x20 and this heater works great.

These days, with the price of gas, propane, etc...electric is again the cheapest way to heat.

At least for me, electric was the way to go. Kerosene is not a good idea in a closed area. I also wanted my heater run unattended to maintain..let's say...55..when I am not out there. I want to avoid moving all my stuff. I also have a Spotless system installed, a pressure washer hose reel, etc...that I don;t want to freeze.

Anyone ever use those portable Kerosene heaters anymore? You can get a 23000 btu unit for around $125.

I had one years ago and it did heat well, but i didn't like the smell. Maybe they are better now.

I know kerosene gets bad press, but when my daughter went through the ice storm last year in Springfield, MO the people with electric heat was down for around 10 days. If you had gas or wood stoves you were okay, but for those that didnt kerosene was a life-saver. I have never used kerosene but think I might pick one up for just such an occasion, and it would be nice to heat my own personal garage where I clean my own cars. Kind of "kill 2 birds with 1 stone (sorry peta lol)".

Right now I am building a house but we are using an LP gas powered heater...my father in law gets the gas for free from work and it keeps the garage VERY warm.

I have a Hot Dawg Modine heater mounted on the ceiling. It's vented and works awesome! It's 60'000 btu heater and heats my 2 and a half car garage up very efficiently. All walls including ceiling and garage door are insulated. When it's 2 degrees outside here in WI I'm in a t-shirt and shorts detailing my car and making my neighbors jealous. I put the Modine heater in back in June. It seemed pointless to heat my garage at the time because it was 80 degrees out, but now it is worth every drip of sweat I put into installing it.

I have a wood burning stove in my basement that heats 1/2 our house and is attached to the garage, so i close the door going upstairs and open the door to the garage, and it is 60-70 degrees in the garage within a matter of an hr or so

Same thing here in Bismarck. Hell, I was outside ONR'ing my car when we had a heatwave of 38f!
