HD Speed Durability Test

Even polishing alone will protect paint more than a week.

How is it that SPEED didn't last 7 days?

It contains HD POXY.

Not sure. The sealant on one side and wax on the other side were perfect, but the speed looked like the unwaxed control area. It sheeted a little, but it looked pretty dead. I do have pictures and will be taking more the next time I wash it to triple check.

Since Speed contains 25% Poxy, it should last 25% of the time Poxy alone would, correct? So if Speed lasts one month, theoretically, Poxy would last 4 months? I know that's not very scientific, but you get the idea.

Poxy should last closer to 6 months.

However, like everything else, it isn't as simple.

Color and time of the year will effect the durability of any wax or sealant.

Back to you buddy!

I'm no chemist, but even with high school chemistry, I am certain that sort of math is incorrect. Of the dozen or so AIOs I've played with, within a same product line seem to last about 75-90% as long as the core sealant for me.

Yes, thanks, exactly why I said it's not very scientific and made sure to use the word "theoretically".

No, it was completely unscientific, you are right. Your estimate was completely off, I was just trying to add value to your thread by pointing out real world scenarios based on my extensive experience with AIOs not topped with DG AW or anything else.

Thanks for your insight, but I was specifically referring to Speed and Poxy, since one is part of the other. If you have tested both, I'd like to hear your results.

Mine is beading strongly as of one week, but I didn't top it with Aquawax, which alone lasts a month easily on bare paint.

Quick Update:

Silver Camry - Still has some shine and gloss, doesn't bead much anymore (only Speed). Daily driven, parked in a garage.

Blue Camry - Still beading strong and no loss of shine or gloss (Speed + Aquawax). Daily driven, parked outside.

Red Camry - Not nearly driven as much so it's going strong also (Speed + Megs 21 or 26).

Both the silver and Blue cars have seen multiple rain storms since the test began, red car only has been rained on twice. None of the cars have been washed since the test began.

Final update:

Silver Camry (Speed only) - Basically quit protection at about the 3 week mark, never washed, several rain showers, daily driven and garaged at night.

Blue Camry ( Speed + AW) - Still beading, although not in some areas, never washed, several rain showers, daily driven, parked outside.

Red Camry (Speed + 26) - Still going strong, daily driven, never washed, several rain showers, daily driven, garaged at night.

As a side note, although to some it doesn't matter, the Speed only car lost it's slickness after about a week or so, and it's shine diminished at about week three. The other two cars still have the gloss, the blue car is not as slick anymore but still beads, and the red car is still slick and beads nicely.

Conclusion, I think Speed does a good job at what it's intended to do, it creates a very good gloss, and is initially very slick and smooth. The only downside is the durability, it's not lasting very long, a few cars it's a week, others it's up to 3 or so weeks so far (to be fair, it's been raining a lot here the last week) . Oddly enough, an orange lambo I did over a month ago still has the shine but feels as though there's no LSP on it when touched now. Speed by itself has done the best for me personally on the show cars I've worked on, providing a very good and wet gloss pretty quickly where durability isn't a factor in what's used.

I think it's worth using Speed, on the three Camry's, it did remove light swirling with an H20 cyan pretty well, but it really needs to be topped with something to make the durability last.

Thanks for the update.

That's the same things I have observed. Obviously topping SPEED [a sealant based AIO], with a sealant, will prolong the durability, but standalone I haven't had good results. But of course, temps, weather, the water, shampoo, etc are all factors and your mileage will vary.

i asked about toping with sealant also, assuming the poxy was a hybrid wax/sealant thats in the speed but the replies said to top with poxy. which is fine but i have other sealants as well.maybe someone can confirm this

Poxy is compatible with SPEED or HD POLISH, so you can just apply it without any bonding issues. Not so with other sealants. As a general rule, if you are using a sealant, clean the paint from the polishing oils or the durability will suffer.
