HD Polish Pad Dependent?

Had some time to play around a bit more with Polish today. Had some sort of water spotting/etching on the hood of my white Jetta. Used a CG green hex pad. A couple of passes and it did a nice job! Great gloss and fairly easy to remove. I want to do a LIGHT polish on my car before winter, so I am wondering if Polish will work with a finishing type pad to provide just a bit of polishing action, but more to add gloss?

I have used it with two different machines and two different pads.

Depends on the type of paint as to what results are obtained.

I have used with a rotary, at 1200 with both a geniune lambs wool and a peach colored euro type foam.



I have used it with the peach pad and the white "cutter" pad and two different DA's.



In all, the product worked good, sometimes better with the rotary, others with the DA.



Some were single stage, others were older clears, others, newer clears (2010 to 2012) which is more a matter of the age of the clear and it's compacting with time.



Works good for most "polishing", but not a true "cutting product".

I have used an 3D orange cut pad, and optimum MF cutting pads before with good results. Like Ron said though, not a true cutting product.
 
I agree with the above, not much cut there, but really good for a last step, finishing polish, I've used it with crimson pads to good effect on soft paints that didn't need much cut at all

Nice mini-review! You shouldn't have any problem using HD Polish with a finishing pad as that what it will really excels at....

This product wasn't created to cut paint, but HD Polish (if used with the right pads) can cut swirls out pretty well, but why would anyone want to take a knife to a gun fight? :) Use it for what it's best at.....polishing paint to produce a high gloss!

When using Polish on our Passat and Golf hard paint I've found that I get great light swirl removal with a Buff & Shine (same as HD and Uber pads) orange pad and for just polishing to bring up the gloss a B & S green pad. Both are flat pads.
 
I had great results using it on soft paint as a finishing polish. LC blue pad and HD Polish...simply beautiful.
 
I don't think I've yet heard any valid arguement where HD Polish didn't perform as expected. I have replaced all my others with it for finishing.
 
HD Polish is one of the best polishes on the market if not the best. It will cut into defects with the right pad. It will also has a very true finish! You can't go wrong with this polish at all.
 
Hate to mention a competitor, but where does it compare in "cut" to something like meg's 205? Thanks for all of the help!

Hey thats the best part of Autopia. Knowing that 3D owns Autopia.org there still positive on open discussion from any manufactuer, or supplier. Trust me this helps them keep up to date on the newest products and technology. It also gives them an edge, because they manufactuer all there products and it makes them aware of what products they need to compete with and go create them or enhance them. Thats why its awesome we have someone like Tunch and his team on out side. You can pay crazy prices from relabelers or you can buy direct from the supplier. You make the call. Back to topic here, yes I have found HD Polish to cut better then 205 and finish better as well. Its more true of a product. What I mean by that is what you see is what you get! There are reasons guy like myself and Bryan Burnsworth use it almost exclusively. I would love to hear Bryans thoguhts on this.

Everything being equal, the pad, speed, polisher, and the same car, 205 has always given me more cut than HD Polish, but I would say HD Polish has a nicer gloss and finishes down better than 205.
 
I'm a huge fan of HD Polish, going so far as to send out samples from my own supply to a couple of friends to get them turned on to it. I've never pushed a product to anyone like this before, I just really like it that much. IMO, it's everything 205 SHOULD have been and more, and is currently my favorite finishing polish.

Now that is some great feedback! I'm glad the majority of people are finding HD Polish to be the crem de la crem of finishing polishes with the ability to cut pretty darn well too!
 
I haven't used M205 but HDP removed holograms with a blue pad on soft paint! I was surprised the blue pad did it as it's a very soft finishing pad.



I too wonder how well it cuts compared to 205. I can't imagine 205 can finish better than HDP. It's very impressive.
 
Here's how it finished out after correcting with UNO and orange pad (which left holograms on the very soft after-market paint). Finishing with HDP and blue pad.

I to have found HD Polish to be pad dependent and has good cut and finish.



As far as comparing it to M205: In my experiences so far I think M205 has a little more cut. The cut may be due to me knowing M205 better. But so far that is my experience as far as cut.



But HD Polish finishes down with better gloss and final finish. And when it comes to polishing out say M105, HD Polish does very well.



I am not sure if HD Polish will totally replace all of my other polishes, but I can say that at this point I reach for HD polish first.
