Hey Jon,
HD FREE differs from a traditional detail spray in two fundamental ways:
1. Detailing sprays are not designed to clean. They do clean because you spray and wipe, but most detail sprays will not emulsify dirt. HD FREE does emulsify dirt, allowing it to be safely wiped away.
2. Detailing sprays contain drying agents. This is because the goal of the detailing spray is to give you a quick shine with a single wipe. Conversely, HD FREE contains wetting agents. Without the wetting agents, you can't safely clean a dirty surface.
Both detailing sprays and HD FREE contain lubricants for safe wiping. As the nature of the cleaning duty is different, so are the lubricants. Most detail sprays use silicone as a lubricant. A few use polymers and silicone. HD FREE uses a polymer designed to work in conjunction with the cleaning agents.
