Having a hard time keeping control of the Flex

gearing up to finally doing some paint correction on my BMW, ive been practicing on other cars. Im still nervous to start the process on my 09 135i.

I really seem to be having a hard time controlling the Flex on speeds 4 and higher. The machine is pulling me around, especially on vertical panels.

Am I just a weakling? Applying too much pressure? Are my pads not centered properly?

Anyone else having issues or any tips/suggestions?

Flat is where it is at = keep the pad flat...

When you tilt the pad while polishing with the flex it will "walk" on you...

I concur...the more pressure you apply seems to cause it to walk more too.

I don't know what pads you are using but I find that my LC CCS pads are harder to control on the Flex than a LC flat pad. The CCS pads seem to want to walk more.

Since I'm always recommending that people buy the Flex, I'll try to provide a better response than yesterday's:

I wouldn't put it that way, but the Flex *does* have a bit of "recoil" and it takes a little effort to counter that. Maybe you're just not used to what's called for.

Applying too much pressure?

Try applying less, but at some point you'll still have to, well, wrestle with it just a little to keep it under control (that might mean different things to different people).

I do think that people apply more pressure than they oughta with this machine, but I somehow get the feeling you're not doing that.

There shouldn't really be any doubt about that. While it's not as critical as with a rotary, do everything possible to get them as close to perfectly centered as you can.

.. any tips/suggestions?

What polish are you using?

[Repeat "prime the pads properly" lecture.]
