Have'nt seen the worst yet.

kind of trauting off topic here, but are hybrid vehicles significantly more expensive, more expensive to repair, and also more expensive to insure. i remember seeing a report on the news the other day comparing the honda civic to its brother hybrid and the expense difference was 200 dollars (gas, insurance, repairs, msrp , everything being evened out.

You are right, i seen that too. Your better off buying a scion xb,beetle, pontiac vibe. something that can get 30-50 miles to the gallon.

Back to topic. I really hope that it does not reach $4 a gallon. How will people pay that? I'll shut the mobile part of my business down. Heck I've already put my silverado on the sidelines. It was costing me over $120 a week to drive it. The U.S. really needs to focus on this problem and come up with a new fuel alternative. Eventually the price of gas will surpass what the the entire country can pay, then what?

Very true. I went from a lifter 4-wheel drive Chevy Avalanche to a new Toyota Tacoma due to gas prices. As far as the Hybrid costing more, you are probably right. It would make more sense to get something that is gas powered and gets great mileage. I use to have an 89 Honda CRX that got great mileage and was almost maintenance free. That thing was great, I got over 200,000 out of it. I finally sold it and it was still running great. Makes me wish I still had it.

I wonder if it will get to the point where law enforcement starts taking 8 MPG gas hogs off the road. It is a big deal around here where everybody drives some monster truck with an 18 inch lift and 32" tires. I laugh my ass off everytime one passes me at 80 because I know that little manuver just cost them more than my weekly gas budget.

Last year I looked at a Hybrid vs. traditional aspirated engine car and chose the traditional route due to :
1)High mileage that I drive is all Highway...fuel savings on Hybrids are really seen when driving in the city.
2)Because of my high mileage, I would be needing to replace those batteries sooner than most, increasing my life cycle cost.

So I opted for a Mazda 3....mileage of 34mpg (5speed, driven @ 65mph).
Yesterdays cost to fill up the Mazda...$28.00.
Weekends cost to fill up my SUV...$73.00

That's why I bought my CRX. It's almost running, when it does it's time for gas savings. Oh yeah.

I feel sooo sorry for those H2,Caddy Esclade,Lin Navi :gathering .
Back to the topic.I hope it wont hit 4.00 agal. I fill up my 13gallon now aday, it cost me 42.00. Last year around this time, I can fill up w/27.00 :realmad:

yea i also heard on the news that they might break out the gas coupons from back in the day of the depression. so that would limit so many gallons per person per month or whatever they decide. im breaking out the bike out of mothballs if that happens and thowing the keys for my truck into the lake. haha.

just read that article man i hope it does the latter one. where it goes to 3 for a month or 2 and then drop back down to 2.5 a gallon by the end of the year....

Maybe this will make America healthier. But probably not.

27-31 mpg here, but this may be in the future :)

I have one of those 5.4 ltrs...its gonna get washed and clayed, polished and sealed. Literally...in the garage till prices come down from our highs of today and tomorrow.

i think its going to take a more then a couple days for it to go back down. i have a feeling it will last months before it might start going back down again slowly.

The trickle down effect is yet to come.....How low do you think the prices will drop....They tested the waters and we bit....cause we have no choice....

Hard goods and food goods will start to reflect high transport and manufacturing increases...Then you will have high heating expenses in the northern part of the country which also has a higher ratio of manufactoring plants..which will increase costs..or will cause layoffs to offset expenses...

This all in all is going to change most peoples lifestyles...mostly people with families....

It's sad to say but this is just the tip of the iceburg....between filling up the car..filling the oil tank...electricity will go up....the average Joe's wallet will only go so far.....

The new up coming crime to be will be Siphoning of Gas..just like in the 70's when the gas shortage was around..every one had a locking gas cap or the springy thing that went in the filler tube to prevent a hose to get in.."we don't need that one any more"

This is one time I hope I am wrong..but we will see....
