A reference is made in another thread about Hatfield & McCoy. Who are what are they and why is it such a negative thing?

I'll take a stab at this...



The Hatfields vs. McCoys is a purely American reference to two feuding clans from West Virginia. Essentially, they are being compared to quarreling mountain-folk that could not get along with each other. :rofl

Just as a side to this, the ranch I bought in Texas belonged to a decendant of the Hatfields. I thought it was kind of neat.
