Has SEPC/GEPC lost their popularity?

It seems about a year ago SEPC/GEPC was all the rage. But, lately they're seldom mentioned as part of Autopian's favorite combos.

Have polishes/shine enhances, e.g. 1z, Menzenra, and VM replaced SEPC/GEPC in your arsenal?

Or, do you still use SEPC/GEPC regularly?

I use Vanilla Moose now, but I still consider S100 SEC to be an outstanding product. I just prefer VM's performance and the place I buy it at is closer than the Harley store and I pay a bit less per ounce for VM.

Like so many products discussed here, its no longer the "flavor of the month". The drop in the buzz about GEPC/SEPC probably doesn't mean anything other than those people who raved about it a year ago have bought other products and are raving about them now. This time next year those same exact people will be raving about something else.

When I first discovered Autopia the current raves then were One Grand Blitz and Klasse AIO. The Klasse vs. Zaino War was in full bloom. With a new breed of Autopian comes new favorites and passionate posts.

The more things change around here, the more they stay the same.

Should have included Poorboy's polishes (and others) in my list.

I haven't used SEPC/GEPC since I've discovered VM. I found VM much easier to remove by hand than SEPC/GEPC.

When I get my PC this may change. The consistency of SEPC/GEPC may be more suitable for PC applications. Hopefully I'll find out soon.

Agree with bretfraz, no longer the polish du jour, seems to be VM now, the Menzernas etc. I still use GEPC and love it. Will try some VM though since my bottle of GEPC is almost empty...

Yeah ... this time next year every other post will be about NXT.

I think P21s/S100 has more "staying power" than GEPC/SEPC though it's usage is probably also down thanks to CK's carnuba wax.

NHBFAN, GEPC/SEPC is a cleaner, then you use the P21S or some other wax

Yeah I know. I was addressing Bretfraz's comment about "flavor of the month". I was trying to use P21s/S100 as an example of a product that hasn't got lost in the "latest greatest" craze.

Some products seem to have greater staying power than others, e.g. DACP, SFP, P21S/S100, Klasse, Zaino, etc ...

I doubt that. I think P21S/S100 are still winning new fans daily. Add the fact that S100 is available locally (thru HD shops) for many @$14.95 and I think it will be a favorite for some time to come.

BTW, I did a search for "GEPC or SEPC" in the title for the last 3 months, then I searched for "P21s or S100" in the title for the last 3 month.

Scoreboard:

GEPC/SEPC: 5 POST

P21S/S100: 49 POST

Still use GEPC but I use VM more often. It is hard to recommend GEPC/SEPC over VM because of the dual actions of VM.

Fortunately, detailing companies are ever trying to improve their products. Therefore, it is natural that what is in rogue today will be eclipsed next year.

Basic detailings products ( DACP, various carnuaba's, etc) and tools ( PC, clay, 100% cotton or MF's, etc.) will, like a blue or grey business suit, alway be in style.

Because of these evolutions in products, this hobby remains interesting. Would it not be quite boring to be discussing the same products year after year after year... :nixweiss

The good thing about having great products is that you can use one or the other just for the change! Sometimes I feel like using GEPC others AIO and VMW.... Or even PUPC. Sometimes I use 3M SMR others Menzernas FP or 3M MP... Or even 1Z :)

The best about detailing is using the products, and sometimes re-discover them. It happened before going back to use a product I didn't use for a while and say wow! this thing is great! and there comes the rave about it again ;)

As BretFraz says:

The more things change around here, the more they stay the same.

(...imagine if you also had the Grojet 2000, Menzerna Sealing Wax and 3M Finishing Glaze...:xyxthumbs )

Totally agree. Re-discovered Meg#26 on silver metallic :xyxthumbs.Hadn't use it for years.

I disagree. I love S100 and still use it all the time. I have been switching between Pinnacle Souveran and S100 as my primary carnuabas.

Detailing isn't a popularity contest; I enjoy reading about new products, but just because someone writes to say that "Billy Bob's Bodacious Buff Stuff" is the greatest thing on the earth doesn't mean I'll stop using my GEPC immediately.

For example, I had been a die-hard 3M FI-II/SMR/GEPC user, but now I find myself using the 1Z PP/GEPC combo. I still love GEPC for its ease of use and great results. I don't have to wipe it down with water/alcohol to remove the residue, I don't have to break out the power scrubber, etc. A great product...

Popularity means little - it's the results that I look for. :)

S100 must be a Harley trend thing in the USA .. I have tried 4 shops up here and all they ever have heard of thats close is the P21S cleaner and that was on the shelf in Kelowna.. None heard of the P21S carnuba or the S100.

Only thing I could find was

P21S Concours-look Carnauba Wax 175g

Code:WX0400200

Price: $37.95

Now ya know why we up here haven't jumped all over it..

Blackfire was raved about now you see people complaining about it because it leaves some streaking (albeit from my experience only in hot/humid weather). So, I don't know--I don't really come here much to get a full story on a product. Some products that people hate on autopia may work just fine for you. I'd say that 95% if not more is personal preference with many of these products. Example: Klasse or Zaino? Platinum or Blackfire? None of them are bad products, somebody may like one more than another, somebody else may like to rub a ham on their car. Sometimes when one person raves about a product, a lot of other people follow on to it because well, they don't know how to try their own thing. This isn't bad, it just puts products that are perfectly good out of the limelight, and products that have a few problems like zaino (good lord you need to Z1 this and Z9 that before you apply your Z5 to this and the ZX to make it do this faster). And there are so many "ways" to apply Klasse that you could start your own cookbook.

Cliff notes: Most of what you read here is personal preference. Read at own risk.

Yeah it was amazing reading post from the thread entitled, "best product/worse product of the year". One Autopian would proclaim product X as the best product since sliced bread and the next post would say product X is strictly garbage.

If I see a favorable consensus about a product amongst the professionals (and others who's opinions I respect due to their general detailing knowledge) who post here ... that grabs my attention!
