Has anyone seen this before?

Hi Everyone,

I picked up my Black Nissan 350Z Roadster on October 31st and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

However, recently I was preparing her for a winter's nap and I see that there appears to be some sort of overspray on the front bumper and headlights. The fenders and hood are unaffected, though.

My theory is that the fenders and hood were covered with the plastic protection sheet used for shipping and somehow the front bumper and headlights were exposed to either road grime while being transported via truck or sea salt while being transported via ship.

Has anyone seen this before? Bear in mind the pictures really bring out the overspray/haze/grim/whatever-it-is.

Thanks Eric,

I haven't tried anything yet but I think I'm going to use a Zaino Claybar (I just bought the starter kit). I haven't done anything because I wanted to hear from the dealership about what they think it might be..

Definitely looks like water spots. Could be from transport or from a nearby sprinkler spraying water on the car.

As Eric already suggested, try clay first and then move to a polish like DACP.

Be careful if the dealership suggests buffing. Ask to see their equipment, products used and what their procedure will be. Post their procedure in Autopia to insure they use the correct procedure. The last thing you want is to have them buff more swirls into the paint and then cover it up with a Glaze.

The headlight lense can be cleaned up with a good plastic polish, Novus (sp??) or Meguiars both sell good products for this application. These products are good to have around to keep your headlights looking new so it's worth the investment.

Good luck and let us know what you do.

Sure thing! Thanks for telling me about the Novus/Meguirs plastic polish. I was going to claybar the headlights... I guess that's not such a good idea..

I've never tried clay on plastic so I'm not sure if it would help or not. I'd imagine it wouldn't hurt it, anyone have experience with this?
