Has anyone broken a backing plate ?

Just got the 5" plastic hook and loop plate two days ago from a well known business. Just finished with a customer's hood, and the plate cracked and separated from the threaded connection portion. Fortunately...the public was never in danger. I was guessing I would get a little longer out of the plate than 10 minutes... Anyone else break one? Perhaps someone should make one with a metal connection point and base...:nervous2:

my two backing plates are the softer flexible ones. however the one on my PC seems to be "deteriorating" on one small section. But I dont think its physically possible forthe flexible ones to "break"

Was it a LC plate?

When I bought it, the plate is listed as "5" D.A. Hook & Loop Flexible Backing Plate".

Maybe "break" was the wrong word. The centered base which holds the threaded bolt is "tearing" away from the rest of the plate. Almost like it couldn't take the PC's vibration.

Thanks for the info and links guys ! The area of the break is identical to that listed in the LC Backing Plate link. Luckily I caught it before the plate sheared totally off ! I would guess that I would have to try to get a replacement through the distributor (Autogeek) before I go all the way and contact LC. We'll see how it works out.

Yup. That damage is identical to what happened to my plate. Fortunately, I called Autogeek, and they replaced the plate with no problems. Now.....we'll see how much use I'll get out of the new one.......

Yes LC made a bad batch of them, but I believe they fixed the problem. The only thing is that you still may get a defective one depending where you order it from. I know that Detailed Image quit selling the defective ones as soon as they found out about it and only sell ones from the good batch, so they are a safe bet.
