Hard water spots & Opti coat 2.0

Hello,

Just over 2 weeks ago I  opti coated my 13' Jetta wagon. I went to a vacation cabin which the water comes from a well. This well water usually runs through a water softener and a uv light, unfortunately I found out the hard way that there was an issue with the water softener system and I was pretty much getting water straight from the well when my girlfriends father rinsed my vehicle leaving me with extremely hard water deposits. These hard water spots now remain on vehicles surface! My cry for help from you guys is - Is there a method other than re-compounding/polishing and re opticoating to removes these horrible hard water spots?

Thanks alot guys.

Oliver.

I have zero idea how this'd really work, but maybe one of the (presumably acidic) "water spot removal products" would get the deposits off without stripping the coating.

Carpro Spotless is on the mild side. It will not remove the coating.

HD Eraser is a more robust water spot remover. Try by hand first with a MF app, cool surface and allow to dwell. If that does not work, David Fermani suggested using a black finish pad on a small stroke machine (PC, G110 or Griots polisher.)

Thank you guys for all your helpful feedback, As it's raining right now I'm going to wait until the weather gets better. I'll apply the "Vinegar" method first. If that does not work I will go ahead with HD eraser (I've never used this product), and of course I will provide feedback to wrap up this thread!

Thanks alot.

Oliver.

I've had good luck using Mothers Pre-Wax Cleaner (strictly chemical paint cleaner) to remove water spots (though not on two week old Opticoat). If the methods already mentioned don't work you could always try using this on a zero-cut pad, or maybe even a finishing pad. Pep Boys carries the cleaner for about $7 per bottle.

Interesting. I've also had great luck with super stubborn water spots and Mothers Cleaner Wax.

<span style="font-size:12px;">straight vinegar - Did not work

<span style="font-size:12px;">Mothers cleaner wax  - Did not work

<span style="font-size:12px;">Oil lift (no dilution) - Did not work (very surprised)

<span style="font-size:12px;">White lake country polishing pad & Megs MF correction compound - WORKED

<span style="font-size:12px;">So what I believe happened here is that the Opti-Coat 2.0 coating was still fresh only being 2 weeks old and not fully cured as it needs 1 month to do so, in combination with this horrible well water which (this is a key factor>) was NOT properly going through the water softener system I believe etched into this soft uncured coat of opti-coat 2.0. All in all I wasted hours of work only for some stupid well water to ruin this freshly correct surface. I'd be interested so see what would happen if this was on a fully cured coat of opti-coat 2.0, would I have had the same scenario?

<span style="font-size:12px;">Thank you for your suggestions.

I've used HD Eraser successfully to remove water spots on OC. However it was 6 months old so I don't know if that made a difference.

Opti-Coat did do its job protecting the paint, but as you've found out, just like with a clear bra, water spots can cause problems. Washing with ONR  and not parking near grass (grass has sprinklers) you can pretty much eliminate water spot issues.
