I spoke to a 3M rep today, and she said that the 3M SMR and FI-II rate the same as far as agressiveness go. Supposedly they are basically the same product (polishes, no wax or silicone), but the FI-II should provide better gloss. On a scale of 1-90 they both rate a 25 (1 being the least agressive).



The rep also stated that the next step up from 3M SMR should be the Fine Cut Rubbing Compound.



I know that most on this board consider FI-II a step up from SMR. So the question is, does anyone have better information from a reliable souce as to the agressiveness of these two products?

FI-II is more agressive then SMR, trust me it is. And the Fine Cut Rubbing compound is NOT the next step up from SMR.



I think that rep from 3M is the one who is confused.

So what is the next step in aggressiveness in the 3M line-up??

BTW, I agree completely about FI-II being more aggressive.
 
I would say the Perfect-It III Machine Glaze is the next step up from SMR. Has a little more bite than SMR, but not quite a strong as FI2. :up
 
I have both products, and I would have to agree with the 3M rep. I would have a very hard time telling the difference between the two products if it were not different colors.



Some people have said that FI-II is more agressive... but I don't see it.

Well, thanks for all the replies. I may just try using the SMR again with a cutting pad instead of a polishing pad, and see what happens. I do have the fine cut compound, but I hate to step to that unless necessary.



I may also call 3M again, and see if I get a different rep. That might lead to a different answer. The lady I spoke with appeared to be very informed about their products and others. We even discussed Meguiars for awhile.

I just bought Fineese II, i think its a step up from SWR. but below Fine cut....SWR i have found to be very good....it really should be easier than this..

Your comments have me a bit surprised to say the least. I seem to get much better and more noticeable swirl removing abilities from Finesse It 2. (I use both by hand)

Luckily I have been in Florida since the 23rd for a family vacation. Missed the whole mess. Man 17 inches is no joke. Hope you have been ok with all the snow.

Unfortunately, we got hit hard here in NJ. Fortunately for us, we didn't get it as bad as others in the NY-Metro area. I couldn't get to my shed in the back yard to get the gas can for my snow blower because the wood around of the base of the shed lifted up due to the cold weather and it blocked the door from opening. So I shoveled, and threw out my back. At that point, I went to the back yard and yanked that piece of wood out of the ground and got the gas tank and fired up the snow blower.

It's all done for now, and hopefully it will melt away over the next few days.
