Happy Birthday Luster

Hi All,

been learning a lot around here about detailing my BMW. Thanks. Now I am going to do my G/F truck this weekend but it is never gararged. I was planning on using the same techniques that I used on my car:

1) Clay

2) #7 polish

3) #26 Wax-2 coats.

I don't know how this will hold up to being parked outside near the beach. Please help.

Thanks

You may want to consider a polymer sealant for longer lasting protection.

Blackfire, Klasse, & Zaino are very good polymers.

I completely agree with GMN. For an outside car/truck, protection and durability should be the main concern. Meguiar's #7 and #26 just don't cut it for a non-garaged auto. The durability is poor, they have no UV protection, and are overly high maintanence since it wears off quickly. Consider one of the good polymer products, you are well served and much better protected. Zaino and Klasse both require little maintanence, but offer long lasting protection and UV inhibitors. My vote goes to Zaino for ease of use and shine!

You might want to consider a sealant like Klasse, Zaino, #20, or Blackfire. I have Klasse on my Maxima and it is still holding up despite the snow storm we had this past weekend and a few bad snows as well.

The Sealant will give you a greater level of protection against the elements than a standard wax will.

Thanks for the replies.

Quick follow-up, Klause AIO or Sealant, or both? If I use AIL, I don't need #7 right? So my plan of attack should be

1)Clay

2) AIO

3) Klasse Sealant (How many coats and interval?)

Also, as I have never had to care for an outdoor car. What steps do I need to do for maintance?

Thanks again. Appreciate the help

I live near the beach too and park my car outside also. The advise given here is the way to go. Try to do a search on the SG to figure out how many coats and interval...seeing as the truck is near the beach IMO i think the more layers the better :)...but i've not used Klasse yet.

Maintance: This is just what i did to protect my Jeep from Florida weather.

Car:

some tint, seat covers and a sun visor to keep the interior from fading/cracking prematurely and a water proof breathable car cover does help over night and early morning. Some people w/out a car cover spray off their car in the morning or QD. This gets rid of the dirty water that settles on cars due to the humidity/temp drop at night and will help reduce paint damage and time spent claying.

The paint:

-wash it weekly

-spray it off in the morning and night

-clay every two weeks

-2 layers of meguirs gold class wax every two weeks

-QD it between washing

-polish with ____ when paint is dulled from sun

-use 303 or Vinlex on the interior and tyres

hope it helps,

christopher

if you do not want to pop for the big 3 (klasse, BF, zaino), #20 seems to be a good alternative, and can be topped with the #26 for that carnauba-shine. Durability on this combo can last up to 6-7 months. This assumes you wash weekly with a quality car wash soap (one that doesnt strip the wax/poly).... and QD as much as daily to every other day. (on #26, the #34 FI is best)

;)
