handwashing m/f

i only have 1 good polishing cloth that i trust to use on my black corvette to remove wax. ( i know, i need to buy at least 5 more). i was wondering - do you think its a good idea if i hand wash it in cold water using dawn dishwashing detergent? i figuring that the dawn will remove the was just like using it to wash the car. i'll rinse it really good and let it air dry.



Bad idea - i'm waxing the car tomorrow on my day off.
 
I wash my MFs sometimes by hand. I use Woolite to wash them though.

I let them sit in the bucket with warm water and Woolite for ~30-60 min. Then I swish them around in the bucket and rinse them off. I have a second bucket with straight water that is used to swish the MFs around after rinsing, to serve as the final rinse.



Yeah you definitely need more than one. I always use at least 2 MFs just to remove an application of one product.

I have 40+ MFs from ExcelDetail, and I just ordered 8 more from WCD. I think I have enough now. :o
 
I have bunches of both mf waffle weave towels and mf polishing cloths. Because unless I have done a major detail, I never have enough towels or cloths to justify throwing them in the washing machine, I hand wash them using *warm* water and whatever liquid detergent is on the shelf. Make sure you the rinse the cloths well and you should be OK.



I never have any grit in my mf towels or cloths. I usually use cotton towels for the lower body panel of my trucks. I just through the cotton stuff in with the regular wash.

I don't see why you couldn't use Dawn, but I use Woolite for mine because I consider my MFs to be quite important. I treat them as delicates because I need to keep them in tip-top shape so that they stay plush and scratch-free. Woolite cleans them well too...the soaking really helps for that.
 
i know black is a pain but i enjoy the work i put into it. only had for 2 months or so, thats why i dont have the extra mf's. i wanted to test before i bought a bunch

Could you tell us where did you buy mf towel that pass the black car test?
 
Any of the high-quality MFs available from Pakshak, Excel Detail, WCD, Autopia, etc...will be fine for use on any color, because they don't scratch.



Just don't use cheap chain-store MFs for use on black paint.
 
West Coast Corvettes has 2 options - a drying m/f cloth, nice size that i bought for drying, i will use the mr. clean auto dry but use the m/f when necessary for specific wet spots, and they also have a polishing m/f cloth. they sell these as singles or in a 5-pack i believe. i bought the Adams Butter Wax and i have to say very easy on and very easy off with their m/f polishing cloth. i was going to and still may buy Zaino to try out but as for the cloths that touch my car - i think i'm pretty happy with wcc's product. just my .02
