Hand tools for the DIY people?

Since I didn't want to hi-jack my own thread, I thought I would start this one.
How about some comments on various hand tool suppliers?
Sears Craftsman has been about the only brand I have purchased regularly, so I don't know much about the quality of some other suppliers.
Stanley is one that shows up around here.
Lowe's seems to have their own line.
Does Home Depot?
Any experiences with tool suppliers, good or bad?

I was breaking Craftsman ratchets left and right and I NEVER used them in a manner not intended for the tool. I switched over to Kobalt (what Lowe's has) and LOVE it. Feels so much better and more confortable than the Sears too.

Stanley, I have about three broken Stanley screw drivers but I think a friend used them for something they were not intended for....PRYING!

I use Craftsman most of the time because there is a store nearby if it fails. And as per the other thread, yes the "newer" craftsman tools seem to fail a lot faster than the older versions. I went through 3 rachets in less than 1 month!! I was buying Husky brand for a while from Home Depot because they advertise a lifetime warranty, but I no longer purchase Husky tools. Reason is I had a wrench that snapped on me and when I took it back for a replacement they told me it would take 7-10 days!! To me that seemed a lifetime when you need it now!! I have an inlaw that distributes Snap-On tools so if I need anything that I don't have I usually get it from him.
Snap on is great, but expensive, so I guess I still rely on Craftsman more than anything!!

I usually go Craftsman. It's not the BEST quality but it's the best value IMO (esp when you need free replacements cause you used a 4' breaker bar over a 3/8" socket wrench;))
I got my craftsman set 10 years ago and its still going strong

Yeah, all of my sockets are Sears. I bought a nice ratcheting box wrench set and that is Cresent and they are good as well. MAC and Snap On are great but Chaching!$$ ;)

Steve, shame shame! :lol

To me, being a carpenter it depends what kind of hand tool you are asking about. ex.hand saw-stanley
sockets and rachets-craftsman, Kobalt(Lowes). tape-stanley. You get the idea.:)
