Hand polishing black in the sun

Hi all,

Here's pics of 2 of my 3 babies! They're both dirty right now unfortunately, I hope you can see the paint well enough.

Here's my truck, a 2004 Dodge Ram. The paint on this truck was ruined 2 years ago with a "courtesy wash" from the dealer. I've tried to polish out the swirls quite a few times, but I wasn't using the right products or techniques.

Here's my '92 Nissan that I just bought. The interior is in great shape, but the exterior doesn't look like it was kept up with.

So, I know I need to wash and clay, but after that, I'm not sure. I've decided on PB SSR 2.5 first, then should I use the SSR 1?

I ordered a PC with orange and grey pads.

After that, I'm guessing I should seal it with something like AIO, and then put a good carnauba on it. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance, guys!

From what I have read here, I think most guys will steer you towards the Poorboys line. I believe they can be used in the sun, but not sure about how much you will be able to do my hand. Perhaps a local autopian has a PC or cyclo you can rent for the weekend!

Thanks for the input, Diesel. Maybe I should go ahead and spring for a PC. It sounds like a good investment worth rearranging my budget for.

Would you say there's a big learning curve to using a PC? Or could a newbie dive right in and get good results? I've got other cars and body parts I can practice on first.

Ya, it's going to be rough by hand but if you do decide to go that route I'd recommend the Poorboys SSR's (2.5 and lower). Optimum would be ok in the sun, but I don't think it would work well by hand.

Hand polishing black, not going to be very fun lol :grinno: . Should check to see if anybody around/near you has a PC you can borrow. That or buy one, will definitley be worth it on black, and on a large truck.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I will just go ahead and buy a PC.

So, after the Poorboys SSR 2.5, should I go with Clearkote, or would AIO make sense? TIA.

No matter what you buy or use, avoid the sun... avoid the sun.... avoid the sun... avoid the sun...avoid the sun... avoid the sun.... avoid the sun... avoid the sun...avoid the sun... avoid the sun.... avoid the sun... avoid the sun...

Time to fix this robot which reminds me not to do anything under the sun... You' ll end up having bone hard dried out product dust on your paint to act as same as sand / abrassive agent...

Is there a temp where Poorboys no longer becomes effective in the sun? Could i usd SSR2.5 in 90+ degrees?

Good question... I know of products losing effectiveness in cold temps but warm temps and effectiveness loss ? I' d love to follow up hear about this...

I would presume though; that warm weather is better for application ease. The product gets easier to work with. Especially cream waxes... (Remember ? the machines help you heat the product up faster)

It seems to me like there's products out there that can be used in the sun, and don't dust too much. Can anyone verify or dispute that?

PS - I ordered a PC, it's on its way! :bigups
