Halogen Obsession Lights - -

Have you ever noticed swirls in your paint on a sunny day, but then been unable to find them while detailing in your garage? Here’s the solution to that problem. You’ll either love having a halogen obsession light because it shows every minor mar in your paint, or you’ll hate having a halogen obsession light because it shows every minor mar in your paint. :)

Home Depot sells a range of halogen work lights made by Commercial Electric for very reasonable prices. There are hand held units, table top units, and variable height stand mounted units. The larger units have two lamp heads which are individually aimed. The wattages range from 250W to 1000W and the prices are from $10 to $70.

Let’s say that you’re working on getting the micro-marring out of your door. The 500W table-top model is easily hand-held so you can do a preliminary inspection shining the light from various angles. The lamp gets turned off to keep the electricity bill down, and you work the door with SMR paying particular attention to the problem areas that you noted in your preliminary inspection. Wipe off the SMR residue and do another check with your obsession light noting which areas (if any) that need further attention - and repeat the cycle until your door looks better than new! You’ve saved product and labor by only polishing where needed, and you’ve achieved a finish that could not be duplicated using bright garage lights or even sunlight. In my experience it’s really hard to get the sun to shine from different angles!

Great idea, especially in the summer when you want to work in the shade. Great way to check out your progress without moving out into the sun and heating up the surface of your car.
