Guys...what are you getting the wife for Christmas?

A couple of years ago I got my wife a Dremel for Christmas.

She STILL talks about how it's the best gift she's ever gotten.

The problem is that now I can't ever top that. She has all of the accessories for it, along with the proper safety gear for using it.

So this year I'm stuck on what to get for her. She doesn't wear much jewelry and has more clothes than she can wear.

I like the gardening hardware idea and maybe the spa. I'll have to hint around those and see how she reacts.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Im buying here a vacation....without me !!

She wants to go to NYC with the girls ..lol Im good with that !

If I got her that I had better be getting a paint gun! HAHAHA

A lot of gift cards (she loves those more than anything) -- Bath & Body Works, Sephora, Barnes & Noble, Yankee Candle. A new digital camera and a few smaller items.

My wife wants a stuff from Victoria Secret and a leather jacket.

SO Im gonna do what every good husband would.... get her a card and some chocolates. :har:

Shell probably get what she wants if shes a good girl from now until the day before Christmas, the day Ill do the shopping.

Mine's getting some very nice women's accessories... such as a neck collar, gloves, hi-top shoes, rib protector, custom suit and a helmet. All for karting next year...

...probably have to throw in some more feminine things too. :)

LOL man I am glad you clarified that list was for karting... I was waiting for whips and so forth to be on the list :rofl

I never know what to get my g/f. I'll figure it out though. Maybe this year I will get her a gift certificate for Autopia, Danase, and Excel Detail. She always says she strives to make me happy but maybe this would be stretching it some... naaah. :spot :D

I do think she is expecting an engagement ring. That won't be for a gift though... that comes later when she is not expecting it.

If you don't think credit cards are evil then, sure. I'm with Dave Ramsey on credit cards and the way Americans spend money they don't have.

I have no idea where to buy jewelry... ive heard people mention better places then the stores similiar to those found at the mall but I wasnt paying attention at the time.

When it comes to jewelry(especially diamonds) you really must trust your jeweler. There are many that sell low and offer low quality. There is really a refined way to gage the value of diamonds. It is color, cut and clarity. The higher the color, cut, and clarity that your diamond is the more it is worth. Many stores sell high Total weight rings. The fewer the diamonds and the higher the total weight is another good way to tell. IF you have a ring that has twenty diamonds in it with a total weight of one carot it is of lesser value that a ring that has a total weight of one carot and only has one diamond in it.

Research before buying. That I cannot suggest strongly enough. Be knowledgeable.!!

Just because a store is at the mall doesn't mean they sell poor quality jewelry. The quality range of mall jewelry stores is huge. Some, like Kay Jewelers sell more low quality stuff. I wouldn't shop there. But others, like Bailey, Banks & Biddle sell very high-quality jewelry/diamonds.

Buying diamonds, though, is simple no matter where you go, because they're all graded. Look for a place that sells independently certified diamonds. Most jewelry stores do. Pick out your stone, then pick out the setting. Don't feel like you need to purchase whatever is on the shelf. Good jewelry stores will remount anything. Purchasing unmounted stones is easiest, as it's easier to gauge a stone without all of the accompanying "stuff".

Check out Uniondiamond.com or bluenile.com Often their quality far surpasses "mall" jewelry, and the prices are generally inline with their quality. Bailey Banks and Biddle is about the only chain jewelry store I'd buy from, and in fact, I got my wife's 2 carat eternity band there and it's a great piece! Although, I do believe I overpaid for it, when I've seen similar pieces at bluenile (for instance) at nearly $2000 less than what I paid!

Above all, you MUST MUST do your homework on jewelry or it is all too easy to pay top dollar for what is really crappy quality diamonds. You will realize that in many cases, stores are selling inferior quality diamonds, but at regular/premium prices. I always love it when I'm in nearly any mall jewelry store just for kicks, and the salesperson proceeds to pitch me on their "best quality" diamonds, which actually have rather poor specs, i.e. clarity, color, etc... Once you know the 4C's and commit them to heart, it makes buying quality jewelry very easy. Also, ask for a loupe and look closely at the diamonds you are thinking of purchasing.

And another thing, if you are buying the diamonds locally, always negotiate! It's like buying a car really. I bought my wife's engagement ring locally from an independent jewelry shop (just had to pick out the big rock on site) and bargained $2000 off the price right there. Do not be afraid to talk them down on price, or it is just more money in their pocket, not yours!

Regards,

Mike

I am going tonight to get her gifts. She need pajamas and gloves and I think I might order her a gift card from the local spa and see if I can come up with anymore ideas while at the mall.

Just get the diamond ring from Wal-Mart. If she complains about it then she doesn't really love you for who you are :D

I tease my g/f all the time that her ring is going to come from Wal-Mart... she thinks I'm kidding.

Well of course I am... I'm just having fun and enjoying life :lol
