Gunk from wheel balance

What do you guys recommend for getting the gunk off my wheels from the shop pulling off the old tire weights?

Would goo gone work? It really annoys me that places just leave that crap on the wheel when they take off the old weights.

Would goo gone work? Or what else should I use?

Thanks.

Yeah I knew this question would eventually come up as they use stick-on weights more and more. When I worked at a GM dealership they used a plastic gasket remover disc on a die grinder w/low rpms to knock down strip adhesive just before it would hit the surface. Then clean up with ackersol. Only on picky customers (if it was mine). Most people don't even notice them.

Yeah, that 3M Adhesive Remover is great stuff, I always keep a few cans around (in the shop, in the house) because it's just *so* handy.

I'd stick with the pour version as opposed to the spray; it's something I don't want to get on the wrong surfaces because of the way it strips LSPs/dressings/whatever so effectively.

With really stubborn wheel weight adhesive residue, you might have to let it dwell for a while. I saturate a cloth/etc. and find some way to hold it against the old adhesive for a while (this can require some pretty inventive Rube Goldberg-type arrangements).
