GUNK Engine Cleaner....

Any reason why I should not use this naptha in a foaming can to degrease a engine.

I would normally use either a steamer or P21 TAW soaked for a gently engine degreasing/cleaning.

For this appication, timing case was leaking oil onto the stiffening plate underneath.

Stiffening plate is heavy, and not FUN at all to remove.

I was planning to just shoot Gunk from uptop, pull the wheel well liner and just shoot from both sides to douse the stiffening plate as much as possible.

I suppose TAW will do the job with soaking, but I don't think it may be as thorough as GUNK....

GUNK isn't very friendly to aluminum or painted plastic parts. I used it on a 2009 VIBE when new and all the aluminum had corrosion after a few weeks and the paint was gone from painted plastic parts. If the engine is that bad due to oil leaks does the owner even care? Hit most of it with diluted APC and a brush, rinse and apply your protectant of choice and call it a day.

I use it to clean transmissions when they are off the car. That`s about it. Else, I use various dilutions of APC. More cost effective and better, safer results.

Grrr...I suspected the Gunk on Alum.

Slow leak on Timing Guide Cover..

Who uses plastic on a 60K + vehicle.

That has been dealt with .

The stiffening plate is what I am avoiding.

I guess I'll just do as planned- remove wheel liner for a better access, douse and soak in TAW and just blast it down with the PW...

I'm sure there will be more on the plate that require something more mechanical action.

With the Gunk and PW, I know it will get it to a ballpark of cleanliness that I won't need want to do a round 2....
