I did sport a fine set of mutton chops during the early 70s, but nope, no leisure suits or Nehru jackets. My dress clothier convinced me that the Nehru would be a short-lived fashion fad (though he certainly sold them) and convinced me to go with an Edwardian style navy double-breasted sport coat. Good call on his part. The leisure suit was never even on my radar. A pair of wranglers, pearl snap shirts and cowboy boots made up the majority of my work and leisure wear.
