GTR Best of Show

Unfortunately I don't get much time to post many C&B's. Actually I kind of suck at them. My Photography skills are lacking as well as the equipment I can use. But this car is worth showing off.

First off to brag a little bit. This is the fifth time a car I have done has won Best of Show. The other five have come at Concours De Eleganse events but I am just as proud of this one. I believe this show was the Z Nationals down in Georgia. The GTR also won Peoples Choice award. Maybe one day I will actually own a show car instead of just working on them.

This car came to me with the chicken pocks. It was being worked on when a wasp flew into the garage. The mechanic grabbed a can of OFF and sprayed it everywhere in the garage. Every drop that landed on the car either pitted the paint or in places the spray was heavy, it bubbled up. The damage was so bad the owner was going to repaint the car. He brought it to me with the hope that wetsanding would cure the problem. Honestly I had no idea if it would. I tried taking pictures of the damage but couldn't seem to capture the problem. The camera couldn't focus in for some reason.

I started with 2000 grit paper and bumped up to 2500 on a second pass.

The fenders, the hood and the door had the most damage. The roof had a few bumbs.

The clear on these cars are like nothing I have ever seen. It is a bit nerve racking having to sand so deep to rid the paint of all the defects. The owner did have my back since he was planning on repainting the car.

Experiment looked like it was going well so I taped and got down to business.

Meg's M105 was doing a pretty good job a leveling the sanding marks.

Couldn't be more pleased with the result. At this point I know that the customer is going to be pretty happy since he treats this car like his baby.

Sorry but the weather around here has really sucked. I don't think I have seen the sun in two months. So these are the best I could do.

That car has the best front end. I just love it.

Funny thing is it makes me think of the word "Viper" as to me it looks like a snake ready to bite!

Outstanding work fixing the paint, turned out absolutely beautiful! :wow:

I've got one just like that next week-minus the bug spray damage of course. ;)

Great job on the GTR. I saw the posts about it winning at the Z1 Nationals on some of the Z forums. Awesome car.

Ya, kind of a sucker for carbon fiber myself!

With the new tune, and exhaust upgrade it has quite a bite!!

Thanks a lot Scott. The CC is a strange animal. But I can see why there are so many rumors about the so called "self healing CC" I can't beleive OFF did that much damage. Makes me wonder what else could damage this CC. I could spray OFF all over my truck and it might actually give it some shine.

great job, sucks to see the car needs a whole wetsand job but nevertheless beautiful when it's done. The back end did scare me a bit.

Thanks. The back end and the front end are single stage paint. The patina doesn't match the rest of the car. I have no idea why the factory would do that.

That still looks great despite the horrible weather.

Thanks but some sun sure would be nice. Makes me want to run my truck all day and see if I can bring on some global warming

Thanks. I saw someone else claiming the prize so I was a bit worried that the owner was telling a fib. How cool to have two track days (drag and road) at a show. He had a blast on the road course. It is coming back to me to get it ready for winter storage.

Great work Ferg!!! When are you going to come out to the 'Burg to stop by the shop? You're always welcome if you're in the area!

Thanks Mike. Sorry, haven't been out that way but I am so jealous of your shop. By the way, how is the baby?

Excellent Job! What dressing did you use on the tires?

Thanks buddy. Zaino all the way. I put that stuff on so much. It looks great on black plastic pieces.
