Which do you prefer an why?
That is a very broad question. Are you asking about the comparison of the brands in general, or a specific product or coating? Keeping in mind that each line has multiple products and coatings. Chances are you will get multiple and varied answers. So if you can be more specific then you will hopefully get better info.
If I were given the choice between Gtechniq and CQuartz -- assuming you are referring to the consumer line and not professional line -- I would go with Gtechniq. Having personally used C1, C2v3, C4, C5, G1, L1, I1 and EXOv2, I can say this is a great line of products. The only one that I did not like was C5. I would be willing to give this a second try since I think (if I am honest), my prep may not have been the best it could have been when it was applied to the wheels.
Having said that, C1 and EXOv2 were beautiful on my car, and they are holding up very nicely after 1 year on my wife`s car (kidmobile Highlander). I would use C2v3 as a topper, but I found it a bit streaky on my dark car (not on my wife`s car). I`ve used L1 and I1, and they are fine. Really the crowning jewels are C1 and EXOv2. The hydrophobicity of EXO is just insane -- even when the car is filthy.
I can`t say anything about CSL, but if given the opportunity, I would try it out. C1 is a bit grabby, and EXO makes it slick. There is a bit of a learning curve, temperature continuum and time window for doing C1 and EXO, and that`s a bit of a turn off for me, and probably why I don`t plan on using the two anymore. Again, fantastic results, but too time sensitive for me these days. There are similar products out there now that are just as good and take less effort/time to apply.
In terms of longevity, that was my issue with C5. As far as C1/EXO goes, it was holding up well on my car after 1 year, but I was correcting the vehicle for other reasons and went with 22PLE after that (experimenting). After about 14 months on my wife`s car, the C1/EXO combo is still doing a great job. G1 lasted about 1 year on my car before I had to correct and apply 22PLE (again, experimenting). What I didn`t like about G1 was towards the end of its life, my wipers started skipping. I replaced the wiper blades, but the problem persisted. Not the case with 22PLE, which is the base for my windshield right now. Spring: Gyeon View.
I am on the Gyeon bandwagon right now -- Mohs is just amazing by itself, and it`s even better topped with Kamikaze Overcoat.
I always keep Panel Wipe around because I think it`s the best prep agent out there, and I have a bottle of C1 for touch-ups here and there.
Isn`t C1, and C5 the same product?
I`ve heard that as well.Isn`t C1, and C5 the same product?

I`ve never used cquartz, but I have used CSL and EXO v2 (and plan on buying v3 soon) and really like CSL. Exo v2, I only like as a topper for CSL though, which if I would have never used it as a topper I`m sure I`d love it as a stand alone
I like the way CSL sheets water, if you top CSL with EXO v2 it makes tiny little beads that are like fk1000p beads on steroids
Any idea when EXO v3 is going to be available in the states?
It is available now

Have you used it yet Zach? Looks like the beading/sheeting will be right with CSL. Looks like it probably has a little more working time...
I just ordered a 30ml bottle myselfThanks...didn`t see it here or AG. Since it was you that responded I had a good idea where to check next. I was just there yesterday and didn`t even notice it.

this appears to be geared as a stand alone, granted you could easily top csl with it. i have 2 bottles of csl 1.5 of exov2 and this new v3 on orderI grabbed a couple. Do you plan on layer with CSL? It looks like they closed the gap between v2 and CSL with this product. I may just use as a stand alone

i plan to experiment with it and throw on a test on the roof of my truck with csl + exov2 vs csl + exov3
does this mean v2 will be gone?
Why use Gtechniq EXOv3?
With EXOv2, Gtechniq broke the mould of durable coatings. For the first time this category of coating offered a warm gloss look, slick finish and unsurpassed water repellency which when combined with it`s easy application made it our best selling product.
Gtechniq is always pushing the limits of performance coatings and our intense experiments and real world tests with a new ground-breaking hard organic material showed us that we could offer a big leap forward in the performance of this category of product. These tests proved conclusively that this material offered major improvements in durability, chemical resistance and resistance to surface staining (particularly from water spots) whilst retaining the warm gloss finish and superb hydrophobic function that made EXOv2 such a smash hit.
Further research into new additives helped us to fix other consumer push backs such as smeariness when applied over C1 Crystal Lacquer and short shelf life of opened bottles.
All of this combined with the introduction of a good degree of scratch resistance, EXOv3 represents a major leap forward in Last Surface Protection (LSP) technology.
- Ensure that you have sufficient product to coat your vehicle. For cars up to and including a medium estate car eg a BMW 3 series touring, 30ml is sufficient but for full sized cars including 4x4s and SUVs you will need the larger 50ml bottle
- EXOv3 can be applied as a standalone sealant or as a top layer for Gtechniq C1 Crystal Lacquer or Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light (CSL) - we recommend applying C1 or CSL as a base coat for easy to mark and dark paints
- If you are applying over C1, EXOv3 should be applied more than 2 hours but less than 12 hours after you finish the C1 application
- If you are applying over CSL, EXOv3 can either be applied straight away after you have finished applying CSL starting the process at the same place you did with CSL and following the same order of panels you did with CSL, or it can be applied up to 24 hours after finishing the CSL application
- In addition to this kit you will need at least two but ideally four Gtechniq MF1 ZeroR Microfibre Buff Cloths
- Ensure that your vehicle is out of direct sunlight but warmer than 5 degrees celsius, is completely dry and will stay dry for at least 12 hours after application
- If needed, polish your paintwork either by machine or by hand to remove any imperfections
- Wipe down all surfaces using Gtechniq Panel Wipe and a Gtechniq MF1 ZeroR Microfibre Buff Cloth (apply the Panel Wipe to the cloth and buff - not directly to the panel) – if you are applying over newly applied C1 or CSL, this step is not required
- Put on the nitrile gloves provided
- Drop several (between 5 and 10) drops of product onto the applicator provided. Work the liquid into the pad to get an even saturation
- Apply with applicator provided in overlapping strokes to an area roughly 2’ x 2’ (60x60cm), or work to the bodylines of the vehicle
- If the surface of the vehicle is between 5 and 15 degrees celsius, wait for two minutes and then fold your first MF1 twice to form a square, spread and remove most of the residue using a light touch. If the surface is between 15 and 25 celsius wait for one minute and for temperatures above this, remove immediately
- With your second folded cloth remove all remaining residues. We advise to move your head so that you get direct and oblique views of your finish to spot all residue. It is also advisable to use bright, but flat lighting, to make residue spotting easier
- Once you have finished coating your vehicle we recommend repeating the process starting from the same place as you did for the first layer and coating panels in the same order so that you coat your entire vehicle with two layers of EXOv3. You do not need to wait between applying the first and second coating but it will not make it harder to apply the second coating if you do leave a much longer interval between applying the first and second layer
- Allow the coating to cure for at least 12 hours before getting wet
- We recommend allowing at least one week pass before washing your car
- For maintaining your finish we recommend hand washing your vehicle using a Gtechniq WM2 Microfibre Wash Mitt, GWash and an MF4 Diamond Sandwich Microfibre Drying Towel
- You will find that your vehicle is significantly easier to clean and whilst EXOv3 has significantly better resistance to caustic wash chemicals these chemicals will shorten the lifespan of any coating and are not recommended as part of your care routine
- EXOv3 can be over coated with other products, but if this is done you will get the surface performance of the product you overcoat it with and not EXOv3
- An unopened bottle of EXOv3 has a 12 month shelf life from the time of purchase
- Store opened bottles in a dry and cool storage area that`s out of direct sunlight
- We recommend only using opened bottles within three months of opening
