GOT PREP?
This GT500 came straight off the transporter truck to me�no dealer prep. The car was absolutely beautiful, with the exception of some buffer swirls that were instilled during QC at the plant�they were easily removed.



Process was:

Decontamination wash



Spot clay during the first wash



Autoint’s new car prep for removal of a few adhesive strips



PO106FF via PC and 4� green cyclo pad for the areas of buffer swirl



Z6 wipedown



Z2PRO (ZFX’ed) x2 on all surfaces including glass and wheels



Z8



Tires are dressed lightly with #40

Next up is a *very* nice ZR1. This car belongs to a local “collector� shall we say. :D Supposedly, he is going to keep this one for a while�I was doubtful of that when he told me, but seeing the car in person makes me a believer. The car is absolutely mint.



I spent over twenty hours correcting the paint on this Vette�I never touched the interior.



Process was:



Wash



Clay



HT EC @1700 RPM’s with an LC LP orange pad



Menzerna IP with a Meguiars polishing pad @1500 RPM’s



OP with a Meguiars polishing pad @1200 RPM’s



Menzerna PO106FF via a wolfgang finishing pad @1200 RPM’s



Menzerna PO106FF via PC @speed 6 with a LC LP white pad



Z6 wipedown



Z2PRO x3 (.5oz) zfx’ed on everything



Z8



Tires are lightly dressed with #40

Both are so deep and wet. The ZR1 hood looks like a puddle. I got my eye on those GT500's. Hopefully soon the dealer markups come down to reality.
 
Both the cars look great but I like the ZR1 more especially this shot,

One question. Is there a reason you used Z2 on darker colors? I was always under the impression that Z5 was for darker colors and Z2 for lights.

He drops the car off, tells me his goals, then asks "what's the damage?" Very good customer, I love doing work for him.



About the pits guys, I was hoping that someone would know. The only area that didn't have them was a repainted panel????? Someof the guys here at the shop said that it was common on some GM vehicles of that year. Can anyone confirm?

The front nose angle shot on the GT500 really shows off the Z2 gloss and the ZR-1, just wow. I'm guessing that's one of those "make it perfect" jobs.





Regarding the dots on the ZR-1, I had a similar instance with my (repainted) Integra. Forgetting the technical term, they are basically pockets of air between the paint and clear that are a result from poor prep and mis-measured reducer. This is what I've been told, not sure how true it is, but wetsanding will usually do little to correct this.

I had a 94 firebird with a similar problem, which seemed to get worse with time. I don't know if paint processes were shared for all GM cars back then, but it wouldn't surprise me.
 
ZR1 :wow: ! That LT5 was something else... just amazing tech. The hood shot is amazing, and the Shelby looks awesome as well.

Another possibility is rail dust that wasn't ever removed. Finally rusted away and left pits. :nixweiss
 
Oh my! Menzerna polish on black paint is special, especially in the hands of a pro.



I've seen the same pit pockets on many mid-late 90's GM black vehicles. Wet sanding helps, but doesn't get you 100% there. The funny thing is that you really don't notice them in the sun unless you get super close to the paint and you're looking for them. Looking at it under the lights can make you insane!
