GT4... Who got it?

NO and NO! Wanna play you gotta get a PS2!

I HATE PS2 w/ a passion, i don't understand the fascination, xbox is superior in everyway w/ the one expception being PS2's game line up (GT4 is a perfect example).

I'll be on the lookout for Forza, but GT4 has a GNX in it and I hear the game itself is outstanding!

The whole idea behind buying a gaming system is the game lineup. I'm not sure why you hate the PS2 but there would be NO Xbox without it.

the xbox is not superior in every way to the ps2.

The ps2 can render more raw polygons than the xbox ever can. The ps2 is 128-bit archetecture where the Xbox is based on 20 year old 80386 computer technology (except for the graphics board.)

The ps2 has the capability to have any custom effect engine programmed into it on the fly, including surround sound. The Xbox must use its hardward chips only.

The ps2 is capable of 6.2 gigaflops processing power, the xbox is only about 3 gigaflops.

But you made the best point. The games excel. thats all that matters. Otherwise, you have a paperwieght with a logo on it.

 what he said:D seriously think how long ps2 has been out....dreamcast was no match, neither was nintendo 64, nor xbox..xbox main draw is the online play..we were supposed to get online with gran turismo but that didn't happen:nixweiss is it me or is the xbox controller a lil weird i dunno what i do know is gt4 is a must have..only thing i would change is to not have the car wash guys dry the cars in circles:D

I'll admit the original xbox controller was/is a POS, but the new smaller ones are great, I personally hate PS controllers, can't stand them.

And all those facts are well and good, and I can easily bust out 3x's as many more why XBOX is more superior but when it come down to it the true test is the gameplay itself.

I challenge you to play any game on PS2 and compare it to the same game in XBOX, the X will have incredible clarity and detail and tons more background. There;s more to this, but the output on the Xbox compared to the PS2 output is like comparing a VCR quality to DVD. No contest.

In any event, to each his own, this could turn into a nasty war that will never end b/c we both think we're right so I can

AGREE TO DISAGREE and leave it at that.

Now excuse me while I go and play my superior xbox (haha, j/k had to get that last stab in...hehe)

xbox is a superior system ..i would hope so ps2 is old i remember playing it 5 years ago when it was new:D do you really has a grand national if so post pics somewhere

I just picked up a copy last night. I only have about 20 minutes of play in arcade mode (I know Id never race my Lightning in a rally event, but its fun in a game!). Great game, great graphics, but its is definitely hard.

yeah, the X-Box maybe better than the PS2, but can you play GT 4 and race a sweet black Buick GNX on any X-Box games? i don't think so. :D i'm just joking btw.

each game console has their good points and bad points. if the Gran Turismo line was available on the X-Box, i'd have waited to get an X-Box. but i love racing games (i got a bunch for my computer) and Gran Turismo is exclusive to the PS2, and the main reason why i bought a PS2. plus Costco was selling a PS2 package w/GT 3 (when it first came out), an extra controller, and memory card, so i couldn't pass on a deal like that! :)

so is it only me that thinks it's stupid having to take those license tests again? i am glad that i can transfer two of my licenses from GT3 into GT4, but i wish they would allow you to transfer all of them. i mean come on, if i got all the licenses in GT3, doesn't that show i can race? and who else hates that one city track with those narrow roads? i hate that track, mainly because it gave me so much trouble in the licensing tests.

I HATE that track!:angry :angry

I personally hate driving games, which is wierd b/c I'm such a car nut but they are all so boring to me. It really bothers me that you can never do any fun burnouts or drop the clutch and smoke em good (burnouts are more fun that racing). Oh well, I'll have to talk one of my PS2 friends into buying it and use them for it...haha

see, it's cause you don't own a PS2 and get to play Gran Turismo. ;) just joking! :D

but yeah, everyone has their own tastes and preference. like my friends love hockey games while i don't care for them. at least we all like games like halo and halo 2. nothing like a good bloody frag fest! :woot:

I finally got it Wednesday (well, my wife picked it up for me)!! I transferred my GT3 settings over, but forgot I upgraded a bunch there and only brought over 32k :( There supposedly is a way to transfer your GT3 settings and bring in an additional 100k, but it didn't work for me.

As for the XBox v. PS2 -- I have both :) I like the Xbox S-controllers much better, but I *might* end up getting the Logitech wheel for GT4.

Anyone know what car you get when you end up beating all the Beginner circuits? I'm just wondering if its worth going back and finishing them... :nixweiss

Well, my life is over now because i just picked up a copy. I did the credit transfer and started out with a 350z. My first races were in the japan circuit, from which i won the 350z LM race car. That car was ruining the game for me because it was too tempting to blast through the slower races with it, so I had to dump it. i could always win it again later. My current workhorse is the m3 csl and i just picked up an audi rs6 which i have yet to race! :woot:

you can go to www.gamefaqs.com and look for gt4. personally i'm going to avoid going there for as long as possible. i'd rather have everything be a surprise until i absolutely cannot dig out anymore by myself.

I beat all the beginner and professional events and you don't get anything special. You do, however, unlock the extreme events which are awesome. My current target is the 25% completion rate so I can do an endurance event.

My go-to cars are the Audi A4 touring car (mine has 780 hp :) ), a fully modded RS6, an M3csl, a 750 hp GTO, and the 3 series touring car.

Unfortunately, thats not an indicator of any 'superiority,' thats because cross platform games are not designed to meet the needs of each system. They're designed to meet the publishing deadlines of the game maker, or the movie the game is based on, or the sporting event, or whatever.

It -is- easier to throw mediocre programming at the XBOX and get results because the programming archecture of the XBOX is a combination of ancient 80386 and Direct X programming. The Learning curve for the Gamecube is about the same because of its PowerPC-like archetecture. The Playstation is a very power system capable of incredibly complicated custom effects with no slowdown, but the development at first was slow-to-go because it was so different. For example, there ins't much useable ram in the PS2, but its cast on the die of the Emotion Engine, making it several times faster than anything else in memory control out there. It can move the data so fast, it doesn't need as much ram to do similar work.

I'd like to play GT4, but i have no $$ for a ps2 right now... :(

Man, I dont know how you guys do it? Im having a hard time finishing my IB license in GT4. Are you using a wheel or the controller/ I have the cotroller and just cant seem to find a way to impart any precision in controlling the cars. Also, is there a way to turn the damn ghost car off in the licensing modes?
