Grout sponge mini-review

So im wondering if the only sell this here. Maybe thats why not that many people are finding the grout sponge's Spoiledman use

I've seen them in the Phoenix area as well as the Little Rock, AR area.

Where SpoiledMan goes, HD knows and prestocks their stores with Superiorbilt grout sponges.

You really ought to see about a potential sponsorship opportunity.

I think grout sponges may end up following the MF trend. There may be some good ones, and they may be some you would want to stay away from. Theres definetly more then ONE, SM approved though (I think).

. Nothing with SM amazes me anymore.........This guy tells his wife hes going to get the newspaper, and ends up going on a cross country spree for all you Autopians!

I used the grout sponges (Qep) for the first time yesterday and can't believe how well they work. The amount of water and soap they hold is incredible. I also noticed the "increased bite" phenomenon that others mentioned; I was coming from a chenille mitt and felt that they worked better with less pressure. It appears that the durability of the sponge will be very good as well- (however, when they start to become dirty they'll be demoted to fender well use). For those that can't find them the Home Depot stock# is 010306700054 in case you are inclined to order them. Thanks SM!!

Guys, wow! :o

Don't you DARE demote it cause it's dirty! :D Simply run them under warm water and add some dish detergent. Massage until the dirt/grime comes loose and rinse well. It should be as good as new!

Pat, let's not tell the wife what lengths I've gone through for you guys.;)

I got around to trying the QEP I got from HD this weekend doing a ONR wash.

The jury is still out on this.

It seemed like it retained more of the solution than mitt. (which I would expect from a sponge after all) So I'd have to squeeze it to release the solution, which usually led to more water on the floor than I'd have when using a mitt.

The "increased bite" is what has me more worried than anything. I think it might be fine when using a regular sudsy wash, but I just don't feel comfortable using it for ONR washes.

I had to stop using it and switch back to my MF mitt. It seemed to be taking me longer to get the job done, although most of that could be attributed to simply being out of my comfort zone and learning the new process, so I'm not necessarily saying it takes longer as a direct result.

Temps are dropping, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to do a regular wash anytime soon, but I'll give it a try when/if I'm able before I can give any solid opinion. I just know for ONR it isn't for me.

To everyone else...sponge on!

I'll add my mini review;

I used it with ONR

On flat panels, I loved it, especially vertical panels, it releases water that just absolutely soaks the panel. The sponge makes a noise as you pull it across the paint, but I noticed no marring. In fact, it left things behind my sheepskins wouldn't have, so it may be gentler.

Liked:

Rinsed absolutely clean with EASE

Soaked the panels

No shedding!

Disliked:

Left crevices such as between body panels dirty, areas that you can easily manipulate a sheepskin into

Perhaps there is a learning curve for the crevices so I'll continue to give it a try, especially on my own vehicle and thru the winter months where I'm not so particular on having the car %100 clean, but if I was detailing for a customer, I would definitely use my sheepskins.

I had same problem, SM suggested cutting it up into smaller pieces - cheap enough for that!:idea

The thing about the sheepskin is that I dont have to cut it up...I can whipe it across the door panel and then shove it down into the crack between the door and fender in one breath.

I'm being lazy I know, but doing two things at once is a great time saver.
