Grit Guard bucket fitment question?

I tried two different 5 gallon buckets I had in my garage and the grit guard only makes is 3/4 of the way down. So I have a gallon or more of water under the grit guard.



Should my Grit Guard sit at the very bottom of my bucket?
 
yes it should fit all the way to the bottom i have used grit guard in a bunch of 5 gal. buckets never had a problem maybe the grit guard is offset not molded right
 
When I first got my grit guard I was quite annoyed by the fact that it wouldn't fit in most of the wash buckets I own. However that was because most of my wash buckets are only 3 gallons in size, not 5.



The only 5 gallon I own, which DOES work with grit guard perfectly, is one of those white Home Depot buckets.
 
The Kikkoman soy sauce buckets work fine for me along with the white Home Depot bucket :)



(not joking about the soy sauce bucket lol)
 
I bought a 3.5 gallon bucket at Lowe's in the painting section and it goes all the way. I prefer the 3.5 to the 5 gallon.

The Grit Guard fits fine in a 3-gallon bucket (they are the same diameter as a 5). 5 is to deep/heavy for what I need; I bought my 3 gal. buckets from US Plastics along with my Grit Guards and dollies.

No offense but isn't that a good thing? The reason why they suggest you to stack 2 grit gaurds on top of each other so you have a least chance of trailing contaminants. Also if its sticking and not going to the bottom, its being held tension and keeping the gaurd from moving. That is also a plus because when im rubbing the wash mitt across the gaurd to clean it, the guard moves with the mit making it hard to work with.

two stacked GG is different than one stuck half way. The fins on the bottom of the GG help to keep the water still on the bottom so that the dirt remains settled when the water is agitated. If the GG isn't sitting on the bottom agitation would redistribute the dirt throughout the bucket.

I was referring to the OPs problem of his GG not going all theway down. He'd have to put a lot more water in the bucket to get it above the GG.
 
I just bought two 5-gallon buckets and the grit guard doesnt go all the way down. The fins are about an inch from the bottom. Hoping I wouldnt have to go through the trouble of going to return them and making another trip for buckets. Is that 1" neglible or what if I were to trim the grit guard a bit to make it fit?
 
I'd trim it or get another bucket, but I'm a little OCD, lol. The buckets I purchased in the paint dept at Lowes, are transparent an have marks at .5 gallon intervals. They are only about $3 each for the 3.5 gallon and $5 for the 5 gallon, so it's not a big investment for a proper fit.
