Griot's Speed Shine vs. forum favorite QD's

I got mine directly from FK. Excellent, professional transaction and they throw in some sample bottles of product too. :up

You get what you pay for. :) I prefer Crystal Mist by a mile.

My experience is that these two products are extremely similar, except that I hate the smell of the Griot's and love the smell of the Pinnacle! So I prefer using the Pinnacle, but have no preference regarding how the products work or the end result.

How does the Griot's smell? A foul smelling QD certainly takes all the fun out of QD'ing. I just got my Jeff's Acrylic Gloss and it isn't flattering.... not near as good smelling as Sonus Acrylic Spritz. As silly as it seems, the fragrance really enhances the detail, for me at least.

I dunno, I bought mine ages ago. Want to buy a gallon off me? That's sorta a hint as to how good it is though, huh?

Yeah, I'd give the Griot's a try. Since this all sorta boils down to personal preference anyhow you just might like it. I'm not going through mine fast enough...it seems to have a bit of a shelf-life even though I shake the gallon jugs up from time to time. I'd be open to selling some of *that* too, just because it'd be a complete waste for it to go bad from sitting here unused.

(I consolidated two garages' worth of supplies when I sold the building that used to house our dealership- left me with too much of some things.)

Haha, if I tried to stuff another gallon of any QD on my shelves, I think they would break. I never did get a chance to try any of the EF products and I hardly ever see them around anymore. I'm always willing to try a new QD, though, as it is definitely my favorite detailing product.

When I run out of something that's not a staple in my lineup, I think I will replace it with the Speed Shine just to see. They DO offer the little 8 oz. bottle, too, which would be great for a glove box in one of my cars though... :grinno:

Most people love the way it smells, so I wouldn't worry if I were you. It reminds me of a smell from my past that was associated with a severe case of the flu, so I don't care for it.

It's a bit waxy, and it adds depth for a day or so IMO, same as Crystal Mist. I bought it by the gallon, and I've passed samples around and still have about 20 oz or so left.

I haven't found a Quick Detailer I haven't liked. Some have been better than others, and there are differences, but they've all worked well.

I understand just what you mean about the smell. For me, Zaino Z6 brings back memories of cough medicine (and all the painstaking agony in trying to refuse mother's servings of it) as a child. Others seem to love the way it smells. I could do without!

I have yet to try a QD that I didn't like either, but there are certainly some I would not buy again. I'm trying to find reasons to QD the strangest things lately, just to try to cut down on my supplies. Honestly, do I really have myself fooled into believing my wheels need QD'd twice a day, when the car doesn't even leave the garage?? :lol

I don't have Acrylic Glos, but FWIW I can tell you that Jeff's Quick Wash smells really good - like Mango or Tropical Starburst (the orange kind)...similar color, too. I agree that the fragrance enhances the quick-detailing experience.

I have tried Griot's Speedshine and compared it with my favorite,Bead X.Comparing 2 adjacent panels on a red 550 Ferrari, the Bead X,IMHO,provided a deeper, more reflecting finish than the Speedshine.Bead X also is easier to wipe off,but the Speedshine has a more pleasent odor.Bead X is about half the cost of an equivalent quantity of Speedshine.

If you're referring to BeadX from Stoner's, that's not a quick detailer; it's a spray wax. Different animals, different purposes.

Or, I could be thinking of BeadMax.

I keep getting free bottles of Speed Shine with my Griots car wash orders. Maybe its just me but I can think of 20 QD's that perform better and are a fraction of the cost of Griots?

I just dont get what it does that most OTC QD's dont, I prefer Sonus for Klasse and Optimum lately but have tried them all, loved the old Final Detail before they changed it.

For me the only product I will ever buy from Griots is the wash soap, last order they threw in the interior cleaner and for the price/performance I would say it underwhelmed me.

Of course its all in the eye of the beholder.....

What didn't you like about the Griot's Speed Shine? Or did it just underwhelm you?

I should have listed that, forgive me, not like me to say something negative about a product without at least explaining my reasons.

First off, I wouldn't say its a bad product, in fact I used some of a free bottle this weekend on my freshly waxed (Natty's) BMW. For me the Griots just doesn't seem any better than the other QD's I use, not anywhere near enough to justify the price and I'm not one to be cheap on my car supplies, Griots soap delivered is 50 bucks for me but here I see something that makes the extra cost worth it, thanks to Accumulator for that suggestion.....

Back to Griots Speed Shine I find it adds gloss, not very slick though. I can walk in to an Autozone and pick up E1 wipe and shine and get IMO a product that delivers as much gloss as Griots, so why bother with the high cost of Griots?

I do like the bottle, in fact all his products come in great bottles, wish I didn't always lose that plastic cap though..

When I compare the gloss and slickness and whatever limited protection QD's really offer (till the next rain or wash) I dont see Griots out performing my current arsenal of Sonus Acrylic or Sonus Carnauba, Pinnacle Crystal Mist gives a great warm glow, almost like a fresh coat of wax, griots did nothing like that for me.

With all the spray wax products out now I think I will be using less QD's for now, the spray wax was something I resisted as I really doubted it had any lasting protection and thought of it as just another QD.

I bought some Optimum when the it was the product of the week a while back. On my car its hard to gauge these spray wax's longevity since im always putting a coat of Natty's or UPP lately. But on my future wife's car which is a workhorse, its the car that we use in the snow/rain and let my car sit clean in the garage, what a girl huh. On that Honda the Optimum has really opened my eyes to a new type of product, a spray wax that really isn't just a QD, this stuff protects and lasts beyond anything I have ever used.

I know other brands now offer similar products, maybe that's what made me less than excited about trying a high cost QD like Griots? who knows....I'm looking forward to this new type product and hoping that the others continue to improve on what I have seen from Optimum

In the Summer im a Klasse man, everytime I top it with a Nuba I regret it, since I cant layer anymore. Funny how a 30 year old product is still may favorite, maybe this year it will be just was and optimum?
