Griot's Paint Sealant

So I used Pinnacle Paint Cleansing lotion on the inside of my neglected for 2 year wheels. The PPCL (and a lot of elbow grease) did amazing! Now onto the AIO and SGx3 20 minutes apart (hey I still have the other side to do!)



I just want to put a coat of rubber cement on inside of the wheels cause there is no way i'm talking my wheels off every week to clean. The Klasse is just going to have to hold up until spring. do they make paint on silicone that I could peel of later? Someone come up with better technology jeez!

I think I gotta try some of the PPCL on the insides of the wheel; the AIO and clay on my wheels probably isn't Autopian enough.



Did you use foam or microfiber applicators to apply the PP(W)CL?
 
pipe? what pipe! i've been flying high with the spray paint, the lubricant, the spray rust transformer, the PPCL, the finish restorer, and then the Klasse!!!!



it's all good, I threw away many a mini-mf towels for this project.



I apply SG with a little artists paint brush in between the spokes and stuff. I applied the SG with a sponge otherwise. (tip! you can use any non scratching auto sponge, you can even cut up a car wash sponge)



I also used a plastic knife in conjunction to the mini-mf to get into all the 5 "spokes" of my wheel.
 
It's finally done! It seems like a shame that they're just going to get all brake dusty in one week! I did a little experiment on one of the wheels and put a layer of rubber cement on the inside of the wheel. I figured, why not. We'll see how it reacts. I guess the theory is the dust can settle there all it wants, and the next time I do it, I'll just rub the glue off along with the dust.



The hardest part of this job was temperature concerns. The clearcoat may become cloudy at low temperatures. I was close to the lower cusp of the recommended temperature. Good think my passat has its own thermometer :D



I ended up doing 3 coats of paint and two of the clear.

It looks sweet, I hightly recommend doing it :up , besides my calipers looks tres nast.
 
I know you get the tire off, but just a quick tip for the next time. Loosen the lug nuts, jack it up, completely loosen or remove the lug nuts. If the wheel feels stuck on there, jack DOWN the car. The wheel, with loose or removed lug nuts will break free from the hub. Jack back up and remove. Much safer than kicking, and often faster.
 
I have seen some funny things on this forum, but the VW dinner plates takes the cake. Can't believe you would get under the car while its up on stands and kick the tires. When I'm under the civic on stands, I'm working like a bomb squad tech. afraid to gently rock the car while tightening bolts.

Paint for your calipers $3, Klasse SG $15, video tape of the nut down the street under his car kicking the tires off to detail them..priceless.
 
Does anybody have experience with Griot's Paint Sealant? I just picked up some and would like to know others' experience with it. Length of time to haze? Cure time? It also claims to possess swirl filling capability along with durability for year. If anybody has used the stuff, I'd like to hear your experience. Thanks.
 
I have used the one-step Polish/Sealant on my red-headed step-child, the Isuzu Trooper, which sits outside and suffers neglect and abuse. Light tan metallic paint is in very good condition. I basically used it like a cleaner wax, applied with PC speed 3-4, with LCC Orange or White pad. I would say it hazed pretty quickly, wiped off easily. I was impressed with the shine and slickness, but I can't compare it to high end waxes or other sealants. The finish is shiny but that color is not very glossy. The appearance and protection is more than I could expect. The car sits outside in SoCal, all day, every day. The protection lasted many months, but it's hard to say when it started deteriorating and needed reapplication due to the sincere neglect.
I can't compare how much product is used, or compare the shine and gloss, but I was very satisfied.
