Im ready to buy, and start learning, but I don't want to buy something thats not powerful enough, and once I learn, have to buy again. I'm leaning towards the Groits, but I cant decide. Can someone give me some pointers? and yes I have searched, the forum and can't come up with anything...

I had a PC 7424 and loved it!

My wife got me a Griots for X-mas and cannot say enough great things about it!

More powerful, great handle, just easier to use!

Get the Griot's...it is the same price as a PC 7424X!

I moved to my griots polisher from the pc7424xp and have ZERO regrets. LIFETIME WARRANTY on this thing, I replaced mine already and it was a hassle free process.

You won't be disappointed with the GG machine. I've owned most DA buffers out there and the GG is hands down my favorite. With a lifetime warranty, I think it's the best overall DA on the market.

As most have already commented;

Griot's Pro's

- More powerful

- Nice Handle

- Lifetime warranty (as long as purchased through authorized dealer or Griot's Garage)

- Backing plates and pads standard, all Lake Country DA products fit, as well as other universal pads ie: Hex-Logic, Surbuff, Sonus etc.

Gotta say that I like mine a lot better *without* the handle, but then I seem to say that about most all my polishers.

I am also contempleting in buying a DA. I am inclined to order PCXP with 4 lc css pads and 6 lc flat pads for only $205.

I noticed that Griot's recommend their 6" pads. What LC pad size is compatible with it. 5.5" or 6.5"? I need to know to compare what package is best for my money.

You can use the LC 6.5" with the backing plate comes with it, if you want LC 5.5" then just like the Porter Cable you need to get a 5" backing plate and the PC backing plate works with it.

order the Griots 6" random orbital from them direct (if there are any issues you'll be in their system and it will save you time and headache), and buy the backing plates (3.5" and 5"), pads, liquids, etc, elsewhere. DI, and a few other vendors always have promotions going on all the time...

Having owned the PC XP, I've tested the GG side by side with it. The GG DA was much smoother, more ergonomic, and seemed to be a little more powerful (although, that may have just been a placebo effect of the smoothness).

As autoobsessed said, you can use all the same backing plates and pads on the GG DA as you can the PC XP. And again, the GG DA has a lifetime warranty.

Might have to sell my PCxp and pick up a Griots DA...

Note that's the progression that Barry Theal did- after his XP died (in a rather serious manner!) he tried the Griot's and simply loved it.
