Griot's DA polisher - some questions please

Hello, I am going to polish in a few days and I have a few questions please. I have the Griot's 6" and will be using the 5" Buff N' Shine backing plate.

I am wondering do I need to do anything with the counterweight? I believe these machines may come with a counterweight designed for a certain diameter so if the backing plate is changed, would the counterweight need to be changed as well? I saw some 5 inch counterweights for the Porter Cable but nothing for the Griot's 6" orbital.

Interestingly, on a side note, I ordered some 5" Orange Buff N' Shine pads but instead got 5" LC Orange foam pads. I believe these might be similar - light cutting pads?

Thanks.

I ran 5.5 inch pads on mine for a few years with the smaller backing plate. Never changed the weights and it worked fine.

No need to change the counter weight on the Griots. Never run mine with anything but a 5" B&S backing plate and 5.5" pads and it works great. I'd sure ask to have those pads exchanged for what you ordered. For one thing the LCs don't have the recessed velcro that IMO is an extra margin of safety when polishing around protruding objects and I don't think the B&S durability can be beat.

Yes, I was double checking to make sure but it seems like an error or the Orange Buff N Shine pads might be out of stock so they sent these. But still, it's not the same product. I've also got some Blackfire pad cleaner that I'll be trying out. I guess we're just supposed to soak the pads, rinse them out and then try them with the foam side down. Thank you.

Do B&S pads have the recessed velcro?
Doesn't look like it from pictures on Autopia's store.. I run LCs but would love to have recessed.

Yes the B&S 5.5" pads have recessed Velcro--I use them all the time. For a while ADS was selling a custom (for them) 5.5" B&S pad that did not have recessed Velcro, but I think they have now converted to the standard B&S pad. The B&S website has good info on their pads if you're interested. Just looked at the store and they are clearly showing the recessed Velcro.

The ones sold by Phil @ DD under his Uber brand do not have recessed velcro.
