Buff n stuff

New member
Hey guys, im glad to be a member here at AutoPia. Very happy that i stumbled across it while looking up a couple of product reviews.

To start off, I am 20 years old. And i love washing cars.

It all started when I got my first car, a 07 Scion tC. I washed the living crap out of that thing. It was very rarely dirty. I started off using a kitchen rag and dish soap, didn't think much of it. It seemed to work...
I then found out it was bad for paint. So i bought some Meguires car soap "Purple Jug" that you would find at wal-mart. And poured it directly on a rag xD i was putting the Armorall that you use for interior on my wheels as tire shine etc etc.. Lets just say i had no idea what i was doing. Ive learned so much in the past 3 years. I now own a 07 Solar Orange 350z (HR Engine w/ Dual intakes) and i love it!!! Ive learned even more since ive gotten it.

Let me get to the point, I got my CNA and worked as one for a year, i intended on finishishing Nursing school (RN). I became tired of working with females and all their drama, and people dying all the time, on top of that.. So i left, and now i am working at a huge plant called Service Thread a couple of towns over. And i hate it. I can't stand working for another company. I've found out over the couple of years that ive been working that I want to work for myself.

And my hobby, is cars. And keeping them clean. My HUGE case of OCD helps greatly. So ive came to the conlusion to do it for a living... I have the skills to get out there and make it happen. I already do atleast 3 cars on the weekends.. In one day, i easily make what i make where i work now in 4 days. I have already made custom cards at vistaprint, "Tyler Auto Detailing, Mobile Auto Detailing, To us it is Quality, not quantity"

I already have my oldest brother wanting to go in it with me.. But i still have a lot of questions before i can start..

Did you guys start out alone? Then built your business slowly then hire people? Or did you just find a crew that you knew were loyal and hard workers before you started?

After looking at numerous threads, i still have a lot to learn. I know what i need to know.. But i see i will need to use better Soaps, a foam gun, a buffer, and overall better products. I dont use what you call cheap products.. But not good enough. Mainly Mothers, Barrier Reef and Meguires.

Ive already came across some good stuff such as Meguires Hyper Wash, Terminator Tar and sap remover, Poor Boys products and several other products. I can already tell im going to learn a lot here. And pick up some awesome, professional techniques. The main thing i need to learn is how to use a buffer. But im sure its not hard. Im so ready to leave this place and get started.

The things i plan on getting (Me and my brother)

5HP Shop Vac 8-12 gallon.

A trailor to haul a tote.

100-175 gallon tote.

A good Buffer.

All the cleaning supplies (Which i will pick carefully with this Forum's help"
A blower to dry cars, (Not a leaf blower).

Water Pump.

Pressure washer.

I already have a nice Honda Generator.

Shampooer

Im sure i am missing a few things.

Im going to start out using my dads truck and let him drive my 350z. But i am willing to sell my baby to get a nice truck to use for my business. Im actually willing to do that.

I know i shouldn't go overboard on cleaning supplies, waxers, polishers etc etc. Ive read that some of you still have tons of sh#t you bought when you started.

I want to thank you all for the future help, its going to be a long journey and i have a few things to learn but im ready for it all. Advice and opinions are greatly appreciated!
