Great looking Sunfire...Literally On Fire

I actually won this job off the forum. A great guy wanted his car done, and kept trying to come show me his vehicle. Finally one day when it had stopped raining, he was coming to see me, and he was in a horrific accident; needless to say, he didn't make it to his appointment. About a month later, his girlfriend attempted to book an appointment for her own vehicle. Me being book nearly a month and a half in advance right now, didn't think an appointment would be possible. She mentioned that she was in the garden city show coming up, so I decided that I should probably make time. I'm glad I did, as it was a great business relationship.

The car had been inthe bodywork for some major repairs, and the overspray was probably the worst I've ever encountered. The normal clay bar didn't even come close to touching it.

I hit it with Ultra Cut, which is equivalant to something like SSR3, and a wool pad at 2500 RPM. I was scared I'd cause some serious damage to the paint, but itwas necessary.

Next I took some Power Cut Plus on a green polishing pad to try and remove the holograms. 3 passes later, they appeared reduced enough to go to a finishing polish.

GS1 did the trick to remove most of the holograms, but I needed to proceed with my PC and Summit Micro Finishing polish to level some areas. First time I've needed to finish with the PC; this paint was soft.

So:

Ultra Cut x2

Power Cut Plus x3

GS1

Summit via PC

Souveran topper

Nice work Steve, the car looks great. Who did the paint on it, and are they on heights too?

I would have been bringing a vehicle to the GC show but it isn't exactly running well, not even sure if I will have time to even show up and browse either. Maybe next year.

Now I understand what you mean by "Literally On Fire", the car sure looks HOT. Great job :2thumbs: .

Man, you have some brass ones to hit a custom paint job with something similar to SSR3 with a rotary @ 2500 rpm! Nice job.

Nice thing about most custom paint jobs is that their will usually be a good amount of clear to work with.

I love detailing true fire paint jobs... the black looks that much richer with the contrasting flames. This one is scheduled for another full detail towards the end of the month... I'll be sure to post plenty of pics when its done.

That looks like the flames done by a guy they used to bring on the show Overhaulin all the time to do the custom flame paint for those cars. His name was Mike Lavallee and you can check out his stuff here: http://www.killerpaint.com/

That flame paint had to cost about as much as the car did !!!

Beautiful detail. I've been looking at used Sunfires to keep as a garage queen. When they first came out back in the mid-90's, their design was way ahead of its time. The design is still and will always be in "style". Very underrated car...

I must say I don't agree. but this one is nice...

I hope the person who put the flames on the car isn't the one responsible for the overspray...

Nice work as always, Steve. :)

I watched a tv show that had someone painting those real flames.. I was mesmerized while watching. Your car turned out great!!!!! Good job!!!
