Grape Tire Dressing

I have seen a few people using it, they seem to like it. I was just curious as to the name grape dressing. is that the actual brand / product name, or is that slang for another brand of tire dressing?

For what it's worth, I'd like to know also.

It's advertised as soaking in and dry to the touch. Is this true? I have a gravel driveway and all my dressing seems to attract dust.

Interesting. Looks like they have many such products. I am curious about how many of them say they are petroleum-based. I thought petroleum based products will deterioriate or make many rubber types swell?

Well, I've tried Eagle One, Megs, Armour All, Duragloss,Stoners, Optimum, and some from my local go to (Majestic Solutions) and then I tried Hi-Temp Grape. It really does smell like grapes and it does a great job on tires, even old neglected ones I detail. If I had to pick a mail order brand, it would be Grape, followed by Optimum. For the money and because it's 10 miles away - I tend to use Majestic products a lot, but I realize most of ya'll don't have that option.

Any 1 use the Grape tire dressing?

how do you like it

I used to use it all of the time but VOC laws prevent TOL from shipping it to Delaware.

The TOL web site lists: CA..NY..PA..DE..MD..NJ..DC..VT..CT..RI..NH..MA..HI..AK as states they can't ship Grape tire dressing due to VOC laws.

Back on topic....

The product is a little greasy feeling, has a grape-solvent smell, it's easy to apply, doesn't sling, and leaves a nice looking gloss (similar to gels) on your tires. You can cut it for dressing wells & engines. A gallon goes a long way. It's a good pro/volume product IMO.

If you order this, I would HIGHLY recommend picking up the Hi-Temp Tire Cleaner too. Hands down the best chemical cleaner that I've ever used for neglected tires, rubber, and wheel wells.

It is solvent-based tire dressings since solvents can penetrate the tire and leach out and remove its protective UV and ozone components. This will cause yellowing and premature cracking and failure of tires according to the tire manufacturers.

What would you cut it with? Water? It is petro based so it would not mix well with water. As far as it damaging tires, I have been using it for a long time and never had it damage tires. BTW they have a new version that is VOC compliant. Not sure why TOL has not updated the site.

Maybe they saw your comment because I just looked at their website and it states that it's now VOC compliant. Finally, we can get it here in California!

Doesn't somone else make grape scented tire dressing? I've come across it in the past at dealerships. Maybe Carbright, PRO or Sam Brown? Anyone know.

Pre-VOC Grape was *the* stuff to use... left a great gloss for longer than water-based dressings, and I never saw drying and cracking as a problem (replaced my tires every 2-3 years). For a car that barely sees the road and gets 5 or more years to a set of tires, it might be a problem.

Water-based tire dressings aren't my favorite... I have not seen one that really lasted yet.

Tim - have you ever tried Auto Magic Super Dress It? It's very thick and lasts a long time for me (unless it rains).

Meguiar's Endurance smells like grapes.

I emailed Irene at TOL after I posted the comment. She did not even know they had changed the formula.

I did not like grape dressing. It is economical and it works reasonably well, but it does not last and it stinks up your applicators; it's very greasy.

A friend of mine raves about this stuff, I've just never been able to try it cause they can't ship it to CA. In the meantime I have found that Armor All Extreme tire shine gel is the best tire dressing I have ever used, the durability is simply amazing. I detailed my car two weeks ago and applied it at that time and it looks like I just applied it yesterday!!
