While I was in down in Murfreesboro TN, I had a customer contact me about reviving a numbers matching 1970 Chevy Nova SS. This car was very important to the customer as it belonged to his father who had passed away. So I knew that I wanted to give this car the care and treatment that would make his father proud.

This car had been setting in storage for quite some time, and definitely needed some TLC. here is what I was working with.

Using Meguiars Super Degreaser, I sprayed the white walls and gave them a heavy agitation to remove the yellowing.

Next I pre-rinsed the car to dislodge any of the heavy and loose debris.

The customer had requested that I remove the chrome trim (non factory) that was hanging off around the windows

It was held on by 3m tape so it wasn't to hard to get off.

The passenger side was the same way

The car was covered in a yellow over spray all over. so I had to bring out the Red Medium clay magic clay.

Here is what the paint looked like under the halogens

This paint was EXTREMELY soft, so for the cutting process I used a LC tang pad and D300, and to polish it out was a LC Crimson pad and OPT finishing polish II.

To seal the paint I used Black Fire Wet Diamond on a LC Red Finishing pad

While that was curing, I polished out some of the pitting on the chrome bumpers and mirrors.

These are actually little rust pits in the surface of the chrome, I used some #0000 steel wool and Bushes aluminum polish as lube.

Thats the kind of work I love to perform and read about. Its been said many times on this forum, restoration details separate the boys from the men. It takes a lot of patience to do jobs like that, and not everyone is cut out for it. Great job

What an incredible job you have done. The car is classic and the work impeccable. Was this OEM single stage paint or had it been repainted at one time?

That car looks great now! Crazy that you were able to correct the paint using nothingh stronger than a Tangerine pad! Awesome job!

This was painted a very long time ago, and it was base/clear.

Yes, it was crazy soft, even wiping on it with microfiber towels were slightly marring it.

I had the same problem on super-soft black. Didn't matter how plush or soft the MF anything with the slightest nap left marring when removing polish or wax residue. After tearing my hair out for a while I tried a Cobra Guzzler WW with #34 misted on both the towel and finish. Still had to be extremely gentle and careful but marring was minimized substantially. Those jobs now get Opti Seal exclusively since you don't need to wipe it off.

Wow, I never even thought about that. That is a great Idea, I need to order some more, mine leaked out and became all crusty.
