So Im sitting at a red light while the snow continues to come down in Northern NJ... and what do I see come up along side of me???? A HUGE SALT truck... I was trapped and couldn't move... you would think that he'd turn off the salt sprayer but nope... my 2 month old car got blasted with that junk... I cant tell right now so I cant see for myself, but what kind of damage should i expect??? minor scratches to buff out I suppose??? easy enough to do by hand? :furious:

Welcome to new england... I bet he was smiling the whole time... ANyways You'll need a complete detail after this winter..

its part of the norm..

These scratches shouldn't be too tough to remove though right? Generally speaking I wouldnt expect the marring to be too deep.

Many years ago, I passed a salt truck going in the opposite direction on a narrow back road. I could hear the salt particles spraying across my paint and I got goose bumps. I got home and looked at the hood. There was scratching all over the drivers side in the hood and in one spot there was some pitting that went all the way down to metal. I was pretty peeved.

Luckily, I dont think its that bad... in fact, there barely looks like there is anything... maybe a scuff the size of a fingernail in one place that should be no prob for a otc polish... guess i'll have to wait and see once its all cleaned up ;)

Yeah, similar thing happened to me. Sanding truck didn't turn his sprayed and peppered me with a salty and sand mixture. Got home that night, washed it up to find 5 or 6 chips to the metal and a chip in the windshield. Called up the town the next day and they said they would cover for a repaint. But we traded that truck in for a new one. So it doesn't sound like your going to need to do a lot of work... just think, it could be worse.

That salt they put on the roads is not exactly as pure as table salt, besides, they are using dump trucks that haul dirt and gravel as well. I have gotten pelted pretty hard but I don't remember any specific damage.

yea a few weeks ago I got pelted by a salt truck going in the opposite direction here in South Bend, IN... I cringed when I heard it. Then I looked up and realized it was 50 degrees outside and sunny. :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: Then I got into an accident and had my hood, front, and rear bumper replaced so all is good... NOT! THE FREAKIN BODY SHOP HAD TO SWIRL UP THE HOOD! So now I wait while the paint "gasses out" however long that takes before I repair it. JUST BE GLAD YOU DIDN'T PAY THE SALT TRUCK DRIVER THREE GRAND TO PUT SWIRLS AND SCRATCHES ON YOUR CAR! :furious: :furious: :furious:
