Got keyed in a big way

I feel your pain man...I really do. I got keyed a few years ago when a subordinate at work decided that he didn't like me telling him to do something again, simply b/c he was too lazy to do it right the first time. I ended up firing him for another issue, but he decided to scratch my car by leaving a single scratch on each of car's panels. I'd also recommend some sort of video survelience (possibly on the roof of the building, if that's possible). He may not try anything else, but at least he knows that you suspect him, and that your p/o about it. Keep us updated!
 
throttlethumb, I understand you are very upset and want to make this guy understand his behaviour is not cool but don't do anything that would risk you losing contact with your son.

I believe the dents can be taken cared of. See if you can scout out a good paintless dent person. It would be even better to find a person that also works with body shops. Shops are more bold when it comes to paintless dent repair. I once had dozens of dings and a few waves and dents on the hood and body of my daily driver. My experience in the past had paintless dent people tell me that they'd only take care of small dents (and the dent can't have chipped paint), and some even saying that they only do dents in the doors. The body shop where I had work done for my car took care of almost all of the dents (a couple with chipped paint, and the ones on the hood were bad) without painting. Now, if the dent is severly creased or pitted, then it may need body work.



As far as the scratches, if they went thru to the primer, then I'm afraid it will need to be repainted. A quality shop could repair the damage and have your vehicle look new (again, stressing well qualified shop). I'd just chalk it up to experience, and if you have a good insurance carrier, your life will be a lot easier. Good luck.
 
UPDATE 3



Well, I decided to start my tuch up process. Thanks to Paintscratch.com I have the door touched up so far with blue. I have the whole scratch blocked out (wet sanded with Meguiars 3000 unigrit making sureto get the edges all feathered out so there wont be anything for light to catch and show the repair. I then cleaned the surface wit Prep Sol and cleaned the inside of the scratch extremely well so the paint will adhere. Then with a fine red sable model brush, I laid in the color. Once it stated to set up, I ran a cotton t shirt slightly moistened with laquer thinner (the rag, dry to the touch) to remove any excess that was outside the scratch. Then I let it set up for an hour or so to allow the paint to "gas" before adding the 2nd coat and then the 3rd following the same procedure. Tomorrow I will add 2 coats of clear and block sand it on the thrid day followed by compunding, polishing, etc etc etc. Im sure it wont be perfect to the eye but if its disguised for now, I can live with it. I keep telling myself over and over..."its only leased, its only leased" LOL

hi i just joined autopia, that really sucks about your car dude, like someone said earlier don't go belting the c**t cos in the end you'll be worse off (think of all the legal fees and the time in jail if you got caught, which you probably would now that the cops are involved). I know the feeling of wanting to smash the living daylights out of him cos I've had by car broken into and dented etc. etc. a few times, but the wimpy scumbag aint worth it. What a p**sy, didnt even have the guts to face up to you when you called him to come out of the house, pathetic. I hope you can catch him in the act and put his sorry *** in jail. the repair job looks great man, good work.

UPDATE 4



Last night I did 3 coats of clear an hour apart of each other. (I owe the GF dinner for being so patient as she really wanted to go out last night) This afternoon I lightly wet sanded with 2500 uni grit to even it out and followed up with 3000 grit to remove the 2500 marks. I then used a green edge pad and and my trusy makita with 84 followed by 83 with a blue pad. I then used auomagic swirl remover with my PC and a yellow mags pad and followed that up with a coat of nxt. Im not discouraged because it looks 90% better but my expectations were to make it just go away. I know that was wishful thinking and highly unlikely going into this but I do demand perfection. Painting is ineviedable but I probably bought myself a couple of months so I can get the divorce finances straightened out first. For what its worth the repair took about 10 hours throughout 3 days.
 
I am so sorry about your truck....people who engage in wanton, malevolent destruction ( and I don't think this is too strong a term for what this guy did by any means) are certainly not emotionally stable and may actually be mentally ill. Either way, what they are is unpredictable and therefore standing outside his house with your truck trying to antagonize him could have disasterous results for you. You have clearly communicated to him that you are aware of his activities and are on the lookout for him. He will probably close down his destructive behavior for a time. I like the idea someone had of a rental car. I think it would be best to have a surveillance camera external to the car. I was wondering if a private investigative firm could be of help here or a security firm that rents cameras and could tell you the best place to put on and what type would capture this guy clearly on the tape. The dicey part is that you can only recoup the costs after sucessfully prosecuting the guy and that would require that the car that is damaged be your property and not a car rental firm's. Could it be useful to organize the businesses in the area into a neighborhood watch program? I think most police departments around the country help facilitate this and allow signs to be posted and flyers to be distributed. Make sure this joker gets one daily for about a month. Another thought...this guy now knows who you are and what you look like as well as your truck. Do be careful driving home after a shift there....observe closely and take different routes home...you don't want this guy to know where you live, where your son lives or where your girlfriend lives. I know this sounds kind of over the top, but I think it is only prudent...someone who thinks it justified to carry out his rage by property destruction is quite capable of extending it to stalking and possible attack. He could also have a go at your brake lines or something like that if you keep parking there. Do not expect rational responses from this guy, he may not be capacle of any. Taking legal advice on the utility of a surveilance tape as the basis of a prosecution might be prudent here as well. It would be a shame to go to all that trouble only to find out it is inadmissable or something like that. But do take care, Throttlethumb....some of the suggestions I have made have come from the police here in Portland OR in regards to family members who go completely off their rocker about a patient's care and think that threatening you with physical harm and stalking you will somehow make you miraculously cure the patient. Nurses across the country in critical care units and ER's no longer have their last name on their name badges to protect themselves from harassment at home. The psych staff do the same. Sexual predators who stalk women know that hospitals are full of nurses and when they will be getting off shift. I've had colleagues who were followed home, we've had family members who can visit only with security staff present, I've had to ask some visitors to show me that they don't have concealed weapons....we even had a nutcase family who hired security guards 24 hours a day to "protect" the patient from "being killed" by the nursing staff! Several nurses were threatened by one guy in this family to the point where they had to transfer to another unit and were escorted everywhere by hospital security! Be careful, careful, careful!
