Got Filth? Horrible Interior!

Tex Star Detail

Formerly TexasTB
The Culprit: 2002 Kia Rio
The Offense: Being Filthy

One if the worst cars I have done. Not the topper, but damn near close.
Got a call from the client wanting me to come out and give an estimate on his Kia Rio. He said it was in pretty bad shape, and that was an understatement. I almost turned it down... sooo close, but I wanted a challenge. (Plus I hate leaving money on the table)
The exterior was chalky and faded out very bad. No reflection or shine to be found. A deal was struck for the exterior: Just bring back some of the shine. Not a detail, just knock off the oxidation.
So for that, I broke out the rotary and a wool pad with ......... Megs #66.:giggle: To my surprise, it brought the paint back nicely. Not up to standards by far, but it brought back a shine and the client liked it. SO I stopped there.

The Interior, well, where to start. Pet hair EVERYWHERE. My allergies started bothering me after this detail.... It looked like a cat exploded in the car leaving nothing but hair. Nice globs of hair.
Tobacco everywhere, along with various unknown sticky goo. Rubber gloves were a must.

Here is a nice few before shots:

So my plan of attack was to remove the seats. It was a necessity.

Half and half of one mat. (Only extracted) I had to go back and re do them all, this time with the pressure washer.

I spent too much time on the interior, and the results were as good as I could get them. The plastics were work down and spotty looking. Everything looked uneven, even the dressing didn't make it look good, but a nice improvement.

The seats were awful. I had to go back and re-do them. The stains wicked back up, and I was ticked.

The only exterior shots I have loaded up are the wheel shots:

I could have EASILY spent another 12 hours on this car.

Thanks Chris. I just stopped having nightmares of some of the nasty cars I have done. This brought all those memories back.:yikes:

There ought to be a law against this kind of vehicle abuse. It is only a KIA but I'm sure they have feelings too.:D

Uh oh I just sounded like the people at Sweet Bay with their slogan "Carts have feelings to!" over top of their cart returns. I swore I would stop shopping there because of this.

You know what I've found works best on a car like that? A lake.

It shows that you go the extra mile when I saw the seats were taken out. Makes cleaning a little easier and more complete!!

I always come up with extra parts so I stopped doing it.

Good Job!!

I have never taken the seats out of any car that I've worked on...those bolts are pretty tight from what I have seen...plus if they have any rust you could run the risk of stripping them

That is a better reason not to do something than mine. First do no harm. LOL!

I have taken seats out before. In addition to the two mentioned hazards, it's also very important to be aware of connectors attached to the seat (such as airbag and seatbelt sensors). Don't break them and make sure to reconnect them. I know I am preaching to the choir and all, but maybe someone who did not know will see this and save themselves some trouble.

AP...your not really..we all have our own ways of doing things and some of us are more mechanical inclined...I'm not one of those...so leaving them in eliminates more trouble for me...not saying that if I had to I couldn't...I've really never seen the need to with all the attachments that are available for extractors and vacs these days

I learned from experience. Broke the seatbelt sensor in one of my Tacomas because I took the four bolts out and pulled the seat out of the truck like a gorilla. Snap went the wire/connector.

Sort of how we all learned somethings...I would hate to learn that way on a customers car...that's the biggest reason I don't take seats or any other part off the car

I would usually not take out seats but in this case, I think taking out the seats is a must. That car looked terrible.. But great turn-around.

OMG, I would not even consider getting into that thing. How disgusting. Did you see the center console? What was in there? I should ask what WASN'T in there? I hope you were properly compensated for this. Good job too.

Great job Chris. :bigups

That thing was nasty, doesn't look like it was cleaned since 2002 :yikes:
Can't wait to see the exterior pics.

When I see something like this it makes me wonder why someone decided to take care of it now.:hmmm:
