Got bored again, wanna learn how to wetsand clear coat

Stopped by my local paint body and equipment store on my way home from work and picked up some gear :grinno: (man i hate that place)

Megs 3000 unigrit

Megs 2500 unigrit

3M 2000 grit

3M 600 grit

2 different sized 3M rubber Squeegees (they where under $1 so i figured why not)

Megs wetsanding block E-7200



Now i just need to get wool pads :woohoo:



Anyone wanna donate a body panel? hehehe
 
Looks like your set. I've done some wet sanding and it really is fun. When it comes to wet sanding though a paint gauge is a must. With wet sanding it's very easy to remove the clear coat and even the paint.



Spare panel's are perfect.



Hey has anyone seen a Megs 3000 sanding block? I've heard of them but I have never seen them?



Curious to hear some feed back when you start, question for you. Why do you want to use wool pads? After wetsanding I use foam pads, well wool pads are faster at removing wet sanding.
 
Meg’s blocks currently come in 1000, 1500 and 2000.



They are hard and don’t flex so they’ll abrade surface projections like runs and drips very quickly but won’t conform to a contoured surface.

What one do i have then? It says E-7200 and is very flexible and soft.

They had another one though that was very hard and rigid.
 
I learned on my dad's MGB... He painted it in his garage.



It's not that hard, just keep the paper flat, and use almost no force. It's better to have to do the same area 10 times than to push down too hard once....





I think the MGB came out great!

:D 3000 grit is only impossible to find in Calgary LOL.



If I am not mistaken, wool pads cut faster and they run cooler. The problem with wool pads is that they can inflict swirls of their own.

that is a backing pad that you wrap the papper around



they are talking about a product that has the abrasive and block as one.....you will be fine
 
its for wrapping the paper around. that way you get even pressure across the paper rather than just where you fingers are.

You might want to stop by Weller Auto Parts in Grand Rapids and ask them if they have any junkers you can practice on. They've always been really nice when I've delt with them in the past. I think they are pretty approachable too.
 
Sorry to go a little OT. Yes, we were talking about the Unigrit abrasive blocks, solid blocks of grit.

The 3000 grit blocks aren’t in Meg’s current pro catalog. I have catalogs going back a few years but with gaps. The 3000 block was not in the 2004 catalog but was in the 2000. I don’t know when they were dropped.



If you find one somewhere grab it.

On a side note, I live in between Grand Rapids and Ann Arbor. It would be great to all get together sometime.

No, Calgary just doesn't have anything. I only know of one store that carries unigrit. I think i might know where to get that block though.

The 600 and 2000 im using for really bad headlights and tail lights, they wont be touching paint!



Will Weller Auto Parts sell/give me a panel?

Do you know of any decent paint, body and supply stores on this side of the state?
 
Coupe..go to a body shop and ask for a damaged panel....you can get a good one for free...I got a hood with just the front having a curl in it so it had to be replaced...the rest of the hood was fine to play with...just look them over and get a good one....

Im doubting they will give me any. Scrap metals go for a pretty penny now-a-days. Im gonna try though. Ive got 8 shops in my area im gonna check out.
 
Coupe..tell them you will give it back in a later time..you just want to practice wet sanding and polishing combos...they will not miss it for awhile..they get a ton of scrap every day....
