tried it today again. Using it on my dads white lincoln LS. used ssr 2.5 with polishing pad till it was pretty worked in on speed 5. then went over it with PP with carnuba. by hand. and finally with some ex. swirls are still visible very slightly under the sunlight. I dont know if i need to work the 2.5 longer or what.

Also when i turn the pc on speed 1 , 2, or 3 it seems worthless. Moves VERY slow. is that normal?

thanks! :)

Congrats on the purchuse! :) It usually takes me a few minutes to workin SSR 2.5 when using the PC. Then again I prefer to use a little more then average amount of product.

It is possible that the swirls were worse than you originally thought.
Some times it will require more than 1 pass or a more aggressive product/pad combination, to achieve the results you want.

And yes at low setting the PC does move rather slow. The settings aren't useless they, just serve a different function (I keep my setting low when I'm applying my sealants)

Hope that helps,

when you say low, what speed are you talking about. because 1 and 2 are way too slow. and when i have it on speed 3, and i press it on the car, it sounds like it wants to die.

When I use SSR2.5, I normally use a light cut pad at speed 5+. A door sized panel takes about 2-3 minutes of buffing. When the product is fully broken down, it will leave a very nice gloss with little to no micromarring. Do a small section (or single panel) and evaluate the finish. You can then make adjustments (change pad or product aggressiveness) until you are satisfied enough to move on to the PwC step. If you use a medium cut pad, you may need to followup with a lighter swirl remover like SSR1 prior to the PwC step.

As Jaybs95 said, it's possible that the scratches are deeper than you originally thought.

When I'm apply sealants I'm not really applying pressure, I'm trying to apply a thin even coat of product.
I also don't want my product flying off my pad, so I start it at a low speed and work it up. I will normally apply them at 2-3, I personally don't think it really needs more speed than that.

Take into account you have a machine in your hands that already weighs 6 pounds.

I hope that explains.

I see lots of posts with people saying the work things at 6. I get better results at 5 to 5 1/2...you have to work the product a bit longer but it does more when it breaks down.

Re: Got a PC! few questions more....

hey, thanks for the replies. Tried ssr 2.5 on my moms galant today. it's blue. Most swirls came out. and the shine was great. used pc with polishing pad on speed 5.

If i used megs cutting pad with 2.5 what would happen? would i need to go over it again?

Last, speed 1, 2 on the pc. is it normal for it to be really slow, barely moving?

thanks!

Continue experimenting. You are learning the "Art of Detailing". Most important thing Start least aggressive-get more aggressive

Each car has its own prescription (thanks OCD). It has been my personal experience, with SSR2.5, light cutting pad, pc setting 5 to 5-1/2, I have been able to do most things. Meaning-swirl removing, light scratch removal, and heavy oxidation removal.

Take your time. Stay commited. Your application of working in is good. You'll get'er done and looking good w/the results you want before you know it.

just remember that white is always very hard. It just needs more time to correct it. Speed 1 & 2 are good to apply waxes/sealants although I neve use it on less then 3

When using a cutting pad with SSR2.5, you will probably need to followup with a milder finishing polish and pad combo to clean up micromarring left by the more aggressive pad.

Speeds 1-2 on the PC are supposed to be slower. They are commonly used for spreading products. I use speed 2 to distribute cleaners/polishes for a few seconds prior to ramping up the speed for the actual buffing work. I also use speeds 2-3 for applying sealants and liquid waxes.
