Hello everyone,

I just thought that i would let anyone looking for a shelving unit to check out what Sams club has to offer for $60.00. This unit is 84 X 48 X 18 and it is an easy unit to put together, almost no tools needed, just a rubber mallet.

I have one of those, it's a great unit; very easy to put together like you said, VERY sturdy. If I were to do it again I'd get at least one 12" one, the 18" deep is a little large for a product shelf. The 18" is a better general supply shelf, like you are using.

Nice setup, but for the same price you can get a Metro style wire shelving unit that looks more elegant. I have a black one in my garage. I made two shelves for it out of particle board and painted it black. The mesh nature of the unit makes it easy to store spray bottles on the side - just put the trigger in the grooves.

The ones at Lowes are rated at 350 Lbs per shelf. So a 5 shelf unit will technically support 1750 Lbs. Thats way more than enough for what us Autopians would probably use it for. Detailing products don't weigh that much.





When the hotel I was working at opened up, I had to assemble a few wire shelving units. I must say, I really liked them. They are very spacious and super strong. You can also get them with wheels so they are easy to move. Assemly is a snap, no tools required. Do it all by hand in about 10-20 minutes.

I went to Home depot & Lowes looking before Sams club, then decided that these were so close and around $15.00 or better cheaper, so i purchased these.

I purchased the same type of shelf at Lowes but they had multiple load ratings. I bought the 5,000 lb. rated ones and while it is overkill, there is an incredible amount of weight on them because of our hurricane panels. With the shelves being only feet away from two cars, I did not want to risk the weight of the panels causing the shelving to lean (more stable than our lesser rating shelves).



I was just curious if Sam's was selling the same shelf for less money. I think I paid $70 or $75 for the 5,000 lb. when I was sent to buy them...
 
And something I didn't know about those-they can be assembled as workbenches as well! You just do two short sections insted of one tall one & you end up with a 96" long, 48" high workbench with shelves below. I was going to do this, bolt them together and then top with a piece of MDF to tie them together for my workbench. Not too bad of a set up for under $100. (recently found a real workbench @ Menards I like with very similar construction but a coule of drawers and a back wall as well).

The ones from Lowes are excellent for the price. $70-75 is a very good price for a shelf rated at 5K Lbs. For example, check out some of the prices for similar wire shelving from
