good wipers

Can anyone reccommend a good set of wiper blades? Ones that do not streak or smear. Does anyone have any expereince with the silicon based ones?

If your car is 'old', make sure the wiper arm tension is correct. If the car is new and you suffer from the windshield smearys, make doubly certain the glass is clean! Not 'it-looks-clean' clean, but REALLY clean. While you're at it, clean the wiper blades, too.

It used to really tick me off to buy a new set of blades and still see smears. Then I discovered Autopia and the concept of C-L-E-A-N.:D If the glass is REALLY CLEAN, Wally World's cheapos should do the job just fine.:up

how often you guys replace your wipers? Mine goes bad like every 2months. I have been using Bosch Micro-Edge Excels and result is the same as other cheap one. so I'm thinking to get cheap wiper next time, and replace the rubber part ($2) in every month. any recommendation? I do clean up the rubber part all the time.:shocked

I've got a better question: How do you decide when to replace them? :nixweiss In my family, blades aren't replaced unless they've started tearing or have a nick in them.

I've been going on the same (cheap) Trico blades for over a year now, and they work pretty well still. They'd probably be performing a bit better if I didn't try cleaning them too hard, which removed the moly coating on them....

I replace my wiper blades in the spring and fall. It is probably overkill, but the alternative is for the blade to come apart and have the metal scratch the glass. (This has happened to me on a previous car, plus has happened to several co-workers of mine.)

Most people can probably get by changing their wipers once a year. I think it depends on the roads you drive on, how often it rains, and how often one cleans their glass.

I agree that Bosch Mico Edge are the bomb but a their refills do not work with their wiper assemblies. You can get a refill to replace the blade (rubber) in a stock arm but if you have a Bosch arm you will have to replace the entire arm again. Gets pretty expensive.

Wiper blades here do not last very long because of the sun. I replace them at least every 12 months.
